Pelosi Ditches Science, Blames 'Angry' 'Mother Earth' For California's Wildfires

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D) claims to love science when it’s convenient. She routinely scolds President Trump over coronavirus science despite the fact that Dr. Fauci and others on the president’s COVID team say he has always followed the science on it.

Pelosi also claims the science is on her side when it comes to climate. So why, then, did she toss out the science and go full Gaia during a recent interview on the California wildfires?

We have these fires in California, and in the West, 16 people have died in Washington, Oregon, and California, including a firefighter and a 1-year-old baby. We — our firefighters have been so, very, very courageous.

Now, we’re, again, breaking records. Mother Earth is angry. She’s telling us — whether – she’s telling us with hurricanes on the Gulf Coast, fires in the West, whatever it is, that climate crisis is real and has an impact.

Video at the link over at RealClearPolitics.

Unlike Pelosi and most in politics who comment on science, I actually worked in science for eight years and wrote a book about science (astronomy – link below). Here’s some science: California liberals abandoned basic forestry management decades ago. This has allowed dead wood which becomes fire fuel to pile up year after year, and when one of the state’s aging powerlines gets knocked or blown over it only takes a spark to get the fire going.

The powerlines are aging at least in part because California, a rich state with a massive economy, has decided not to maintain them properly. Liberals, in short, have abanonded basic government, most conspicuously public safety nationwide this year, for the sake of politics.

If you’re goading others to “follow the science” while you also appeal to the authority of “Mother Earth,” you’re doing both science and mysticism wrong.

Even far-left Mother Jones goads California to allow more controlled burns to prevent wildfires and even feed the mighty sequoia trees. Here’s some science on that:

“They are a fire-dependent species that are well adapted to survive burns,” says Nichols. “In fact, fire helps them get the next generation of sequoias started.” That’s because fire encourages the trees to drop their cones en masse. The blaze knocks out competition from other plants and provides a great shot of fertilizer in the form of ash.

Trees…need fire.

A commenter back over at RCP lays down some history on the subject.

I lived and worked for five years for the USDA-Forest Service in a 180,000 acre wildlife area. There were four camping areas for boaters, swimmers, hikers, and horse back riders. There were no stores, restaurants, motels at all in this beautiful area (Land Between the Lakes). The only residents allowed were those of us who worked at these individual campgrounds. We rarely had any fires at all, even though this entire area is heavily wooded. The reason is because of the controlled fire burns done periodically by the Forest Service employees to rid the forests of dead trees, brush, and leaf litter. The tree huggers, like Pelosi, of California passed laws PREVENTING these much needed controlled burns, and sadly and horrifically are paying the ultimate price. Keep stupidly blaming “climate change” instead of proper forest management, and instead of building massive reservoirs to capture and hold snow melt and rain run off from the mountains.

One of California’s wildfires was set off by pyrotechnics at a gender reveal party. It might be enlightening to ask Pelosi for Mother Earth’s opinion of all the implications of that.

Pelosi Says Salon Owes Her An Apology for 'Setting Me Up' After Footage Leaks of Her Indoor Appointment

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday that a San Francisco salon she has visited many times owes her an apology for creating a "setup" that resulted in video footage of her most recent appointment drawing controversy online.

Fox News first reported on Pelosi's indoor appointment on Tuesday after the salon owner approached the network with security footage that showed Pelosi walking through the salon without a mask covering her nose or mouth.

San Francisco's coronavirus guidelines did not permit hair stylists to work with customers at the time of Pelosi's Monday appointment. The owner of the salon described Pelosi's appointment request to Fox News as a "slap in the face."

Pelosi's office referred Newsweek to comments the speaker made about the incident during a news conference with San Francisco Unified School District leaders on Wednesday.

"I take responsibility for trusting the word of a neighborhood salon that I've been to over the years many times," Pelosi said. "As it turns out, it was a setup. So I take responsibility for falling for that setup."

When a reporter asked Pelosi if she believed she owed the service industry an apology, Pelosi responded, "I don't."

"I think that this salon owes me an apology for setting me up," Pelosi said.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

MU2 Take:  This is exactly what is wrong with the left.  They do what they tell everyone else not to do and get mad when they are caught.  CNN would not dare air this.

Pelosi used shuttered San Francisco hair salon for blow-out, owner calls it 'slap in the face'

'We have been shut down for so long,' owner says

EXCLUSIVE: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited a San Francisco hair salon on Monday afternoon for a wash and blow-out, despite local ordinances keeping salons closed amid the coronavirus pandemic, Fox News had learned.

In security footage obtained by Fox News, and timestamped Monday at 3:08 p.m. Pacific Time, the California powerhouse is seen walking through eSalon in San Francisco with wet hair, and without a mask over her mouth or nose.

PELOSI ANNOUNCES CORONAVIRUS MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED IN HOUSE CHAMBER

The stylist doing her hair can be seen following her wearing a black face mask.

Salons in San Francisco had been closed since March and were only notified they could reopen on Sept. 1 for outdoor hairstyling services only.

'I am sharing this because of what everyone in my industry and my city ... is going through right now.'

— Salon owner Erica Kious

Salon owner Erica Kious, in a phone interview with Fox News on Tuesday, shared details of Pelosi’s visit. Kious explained she has independent stylists working for her who rent chairs in her salon.

“One of the stylists who rents a chair from me contacted me Sunday night,” Kious said.

A screengrab of the text message she received from one of her stylists, and obtained by Fox News, said: “I’ll be there at 2:45 tomorrow. Pelosi assistant just messaged me to do her hair.”

Kious replied: “Pelosi?”

“I was like, are you kidding me right now? Do I let this happen? What do I do?” Kious told Fox News, while noting that she "can’t control” what her stylists do if they rent chairs from her, as “they’re not paying” at this time.

Kious cast Pelosi’s visit as a double standard.

“It was a slap in the face that she went in, you know, that she feels that she can just go and get her stuff done while no one else can go in, and I can’t work,” Kious told Fox News, adding that she “can’t believe” the speaker didn’t have a mask on. (From the footage, it appears Pelosi had some kind of covering around her neck.)

“We’re supposed to look up to this woman, right?” Kious said. “It is just disturbing.”

Asked for comment, Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill maintained that the speaker was following the rules.

“The speaker always wears a mask and complies with local COVID requirements,” he said.

But the owner pushed back.

CALIFORNIA HAIR SALONS STRUGGLING WITH SECOND CORONAVIRUS CLOSING

Kious said Pelosi received a wash and a blow-dry, but told Fox News that “you’re not supposed to blow dry hair” according to coronavirus safety precautions for hair salons.

“We have been shut down for so long, not just me, but most of the small businesses and I just can’t – it’s a feeling – a feeling of being deflated, helpless and honestly beaten down,” Kious said.

“I have been fighting for six months for a business that took me 12 years to build to reopen,” she explained. “I am a single mom, I have two small children, and I have no income.”

She added: “The fact that they did this, and she came in, it’s like a slap in the face.”

Kious told Fox News that she had expected to be able to reopen her salon in July, and prepared her space in accordance with local guidelines.

“There were rules and regulations to go by to safely reopen, which I did, but I was still not allowed to open my business,” she said, noting that she installed plexiglass partitions between sinks and seating areas, and ensured that all salon chairs were six feet apart, along with proper air circulation from open windows.

“They never let us open,” she said, while adding that she is unable to reopen outside because her salon specializes in hair color, and using chemicals outside is prohibited.

FOX NEWS EXCLUSIVE: SALON OWNER JAILED FOR VIOLATING CORONAVIRUS SHUTDOWN ORDER SPEAKS OUT

But Kious said she is not alone in the hardships she has faced amid closures during the coronavirus pandemic.

“This is for everybody,” she said. “I am sharing this because of what everyone in my industry, and my city, what every small business is going through right now.”

Kious told Fox News that she was a recipient of a $12,000 Paycheck Protection Program loan, which was created to help small businesses stay afloat amid the pandemic under the bipartisan CARES Act (which Pelosi backed), but still is forced to shut down her salon for good within the next 30 to 60 days.

“No one can last anymore,” she said. “I have also lost 60 percent of my clientele because everyone is fleeing the city.”

Kious said that the area where her salon is located has turned into “a third world country,” saying that “every other storefront is completely vacant and shut down and boarded up.”

“And because of the shutdown, and the store closures, we’ve lost people, my clients, and my employees, and that is due to the politics in San Francisco,” she said, adding that the homeless population is “everywhere” and “defecating” all over the city.

“It has gotten so extreme,” she said. “It is so night and day from what it was a year ago, that everyone is fleeing.”
