Now a Disease from Biblical Times Is Likely Coming Over Our Unsecured Border

Now a Disease from Biblical Times Is Likely Coming Over Our Unsecured Border
Lepromatous leprosy in a 54-year-old man in central Florida

Move over, COVID-19, and say hello to leprosy. Yes, that leprosy, the biblical plague from the Old and New Testaments.

That’s according to the CDC, which says that there is “rising evidence that leprosy has become endemic in the southeastern United States.”

Leprosy, also called Hanson’s Disease, is an infection caused by slow-growing bacteria called Mycobacterium leprae, according to the CDC. “It can affect the nerves, skin, eyes, and lining of the nose (nasal mucosa).” Up to 2 million people worldwide are permanently disabled from the disease, which can be transmitted by “prolonged, close contact with someone with untreated leprosy over many months.” It is thought to be spread via respiratory droplets—or even contact with armadillos. The CDC, which now apparently believes in natural immunity again, says, “more than 95% of all people have natural immunity to the disease.”

But in a Research Letter published in the August 2023 edition of the Emerging Infections Diseases journal, researchers from the Kansas City University–Graduate Medical Education/Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery Consortium raised concerns about the rise in the number of cases in the U.S.:

Leprosy has been historically uncommon in the United States; incidence peaked around 1983, and a drastic reduction in the annual number of documented cases occurred from the 1980s through 2000. However, since then, reports demonstrate a gradual increase in the incidence of leprosy in the United States. The number of reported cases has more than doubled in the southeastern states over the last decade. According to the National Hansen’s Disease Program, 159 new cases were reported in the United States in 2020; Florida was among the top reporting states.

Central Florida accounted for 81% of cases in the Sunshine State—nearly 20% of cases reported nationally.

The letter in the journal described the case of a 54-year-old man who sought treatment in a Florida dermatology clinic. “He denied any domestic or foreign travel, exposure to armadillos, prolonged contact with immigrants from leprosy-endemic countries, or connections with someone known to have leprosy.” The man has been a central Florida resident for his entire life and “works in landscaping, and spends long periods of time outdoors” He was referred to an infectious disease program and was prescribed triple therapy with dapsone, rifampin, and clofazimine.

The Sun reports that a Texas man in his 20s was recently diagnosed with leprosy after months of battling a mysterious skin rash. “He was heavily tattooed and moved to the US from Samoa — where leprosy is still endemic — four years before he was diagnosed. After a course of antibiotics and surgery to repair damaged tendons in his hands, he is said to be improving.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, there are “about 200-250 newly diagnosed cases reported to the national registry each year. The largest number of cases in the U.S. live in California, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, New York, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.”

Researchers said a high percentage of cases in the southern United States “were found to carry the same unique strain of M. leprae as nine-banded armadillos in the region, suggesting a strong likelihood of zoonotic transmission.” But while a recent systematic review “supports an increasing role of anthroponotic and zoonotic transmission of leprosy,” another study demonstrated that the cases in the eastern United States, including Georgia and central Florida, “lacked zoonotic exposure or recent residence outside of the United States.”

That led researchers to suspect “that international migration of persons with leprosy is a potential source of autochthonous transmission.” They noted that “The number of international migrants in North America increased from 27.6 million persons in 1990 to 58.7 million in 2020, so a link to migration may account for the increase in incidence of leprosy in historically nonendemic areas.”

According to the World Health Organization, “As per data of 2019, Brazil, India and Indonesia reported more than 10,000 new cases, while 13 other countries (Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka and the United Republic of Tanzania) each reported 1,000–10,000 new cases.”

So, not only are migrants bringing communicable diseases like COVID-19 and tuberculosis across the Southern border, but they’re also likely bringing leprosy. It’s been added to the Department of Health and Human Service’s (HHS) list of diseases with “public health significance,” according to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP):

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has designated the following conditions as communicable diseases of public health significance that apply to immigration medical examinations conducted in the United States:

  • Gonorrhea;
  • Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy), infectious;
  • Syphilis, infectious stage; and
  • Tuberculosis (TB), Active—Only a Class A TB diagnosis renders an applicant inadmissible to the United States. Under current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, Class A TB means TB that is clinically active and communicable.

HIV was removed from the list in 2009 at the behest of Barack Obama’s HHS. CBP notes that “an individual who is HIV-positive should not indicate that he or she has a communicable disease of public health significance when applying for an ESTA [Electronic System for Travel Authorization] based on his or her HIV status alone.” I’m sure that will comfort the young women and children infected with HIV and other STDs as they’re trafficked over the southern border.

By the way, you should know that this article will most likely be demonetized by the good folks at Google who don’t want us talking about COVID-19 and other diseases coming over the border. The quote from the CDC above likely triggered the alarm that gets us demonetized. It’s stupid, I know. We were right about nearly everything COVID-related for more than two years, while the legacy media got major parts of the story wrong—including that it likely escaped from a lab in Wuhan [TRIGGER!], that masks were basically useless in stopping the spread of the disease [TRIGGER!], and that there are side effects from the vaccines that no one wants to talk about [MAJOR TRIGGER!]—but we’re still paying the price for telling you the truth and reporting inconvenient facts that the Big Tech gatekeepers don’t want you to see. As a result, we will most likely make no money from this article—or a pile of others that have been demonetized recently. Here are a few just from the last few days.

Elon Musk: 'They Are Openly Pushing for Genocide of White People in South Africa'

Musk on Monday expressed outrage over a South African black party "openly pushing for genocide of white people" during a giant rally at a sports stadium over the weekend in Johannesburg.
"They are openly pushing for genocide of white people in South Africa," Musk said. [South African President Cyril Ramaphosa], why do you say nothing?"

Musk, who was born in South Africa, also highlighted the case of a white farmer being murdered in his home country.

From IOL.co.za, "Uproar over EFF leader Julius Malema singing 'Kill the Boer'. This is what the courts said about the song":
EFF leader Julius Malema has been sharply criticised by prominent white South Africans for singing the Struggle song, "Shoot to kill, kill the Boer, kill the farmer".

The Equality Court in Johannesburg ruled in August last year that the song was not hate speech or incitement, after AfriForum took the matter to court.

The court held that the song was freedom of speech and had to be left in the political arena.

The court said the lyrics of the song - "Shoot to kill, kill the Boer, kill the farmer" - were not to be taken literally.

This weekend, the EFF leader Malema and nearly 100,000 supporters, who painted the FNB Stadium in a sea of red, were seen and heard singing the song after Malema concluded his speech at the party's 10th-anniversary celebrations.
In 2016, Malema said he wasn't "calling for the slaughtering of white people," then added, "at least for now."

Taco Bell Get Hit With Class Action Lawsuit Over False Advertising Related To Crunchwrap Supremes

In a recent legal development, Frank Siragusa has taken legal action against Taco Bell, accusing the fast-food chain of deceptive advertising practices related to its Mexican Pizza, Veggie Mexican Pizza, Crunchwrap Supreme, Grande Crunchwrap, and Vegan Crunchwrap.

The proposed class action, filed in Brooklyn federal court, alleges that Taco Bell’s advertisements portray these menu items as containing “at least double” the actual amount of beef and bean filling.

Siragusa, a resident of Ridgewood, NY, expressed dissatisfaction when he purchased a Mexican Pizza for $5.49 at a Taco Bell in New York City last September.

He claimed that the product did not match the photo depicted in the chain’s advertising, featuring food brimming with beef, cheese, and colorful vegetables. In contrast, he provided photos of smaller, less vibrant food that other customers had shared online.

The lawsuit contends that Taco Bell’s advertising is “unfair and financially damaging to consumers.”

The plaintiff emphasizes the current economic challenges, including high inflation, rising food prices, and meat costs, particularly affecting lower-income consumers.

The complaint seeks at least $5 million in compensation for Taco Bell customers in New York state who purchased these five items within the last three years.

Importantly, Siragusa is not alleging that the items contain less content than what Taco Bell specifies on its website.

Taco Bell, a subsidiary of Yum Brands, has not yet responded to the lawsuit’s allegations.

This is not the first instance of such legal action being taken against fast-food chains.

Previously, one of Siragusa’s attorneys filed a pending lawsuit in Brooklyn against McDonald’s and Wendy’s, raising similar concerns about the size of their burgers as advertised versus the actual size.

Additionally, another attorney involved in the case, Anthony Russo, initiated a comparable lawsuit against Burger King in Miami over its Whoppers, which reached an impasse during mediation.

Russo stated that Taco Bell’s advertisements do not adequately disclose the weight of the beef or filling, leading customers to make purchases based primarily on the visual representation of the products rather than any weight disclosure, which he believes is common among consumers.

As the legal proceedings unfold, Taco Bell will need to address the allegations and respond to the proposed class action suit in due course.

The outcome of this case could have implications for other fast-food chains facing similar accusations and may spark discussions surrounding advertising practices and consumer protection.

Alvin Bragg's Office Suffers Big Loss in Case Against Donald Trump

A New York state judge just slammed the shutters closed on Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s hope of peering into Melania Trump’s emails.

New York State Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan rejected Bragg’s bid to peruse emails between former Trump executive assistant Rhona Graff and former first lady Melania Trump, according to CBS News. Bragg’s subpoena was overly broad, Merchan found.

Merchan also blocked another Bragg subpoena for emails between Trump Organization staffers and White House officials, more than two years of the former president’s travel itineraries, and emails from Graff to Keith Schiller, former director of Oval Office operations, according to CBS.

“This request would yield significantly more responsive records than necessary,” Merchan wrote concerning Bragg’s effort to read Melania Trump’s emails.

As part of Bragg’s effort to convict Trump on charges of falsifying business records in 2016, Bragg wants to get the full, video-recorded deposition Trump gave in the federal lawsuit by former advice columnist E. Jean Carroll that accused Trump of rape and defamation.

Merchan did not block the subpoena, but said it is up to a federal judge to rule on the matter.

The former first lady is now leading a private life, according to The New York Times.

“From her point of view and her friends’ point of view, she’s been through a lot and she’s come out a strong independent woman,” said R. Couri Hay, a publicist, who knew Melania Trump before her White House days, told the Times= in an article published Wednesday.

“She’s learned how to close the door and close the shutters and remain private. We don’t see a lot, we don’t hear a lot,” he said.

Former Trump aide Kellyanne Conway said Melania Trump is “all in” on the former president’s campaign. She is the former president’s “most trusted and most transparent adviser,” Conway said.

“I know few people as comfortable in their skin as Melania Trump. She knows who she is and keeps her priorities in check. Melania keeps them guessing, and they keep guessing wrong,” Conway the Times.Kate Andersen Brower, author of “First Women: The Grace and Power of America’s Modern First Ladies,” said Melania Trump is quite content to live on her own terms.

“She’s the most obviously unknowable first lady,” Brower said.

“There’s something radical about it. First ladies are expected to want to please people and I’m not sure she really cares.”

During a Friday interview, the former president said telling his wife about charges against him has been difficult, according to The Hill.

“It’s always unpleasant when you have to go in and tell your wife that, ‘By the way, tomorrow sometime I’m going to be indicted,’” he said during “The John Fredericks Show.”

“And she says, ‘For what?’ And I say, ‘I have no idea. I have absolutely no idea,’” he said.

Illinois Governor Signs Bill Allowing Foreign Nationals To Arrest American Citizens

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker – a Democrat – signed a bill into law on Friday that would allow non-U.S. citizens to become police officers. Opponents of the bill argue that it would be “madness” to allow foreign nationals to arrest American citizens.

After passing the Illinois State House and Senate, Pritzker signed into law Illinois House Bill 3751.

Illinois House Bill 3751 states:

Provides that an individual who is not a citizen but is legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law is authorized to apply for the position of police officer, subject to all requirements and limitations, other than citizenship, to which other applicants are subject.”
According to WTVO, “Illinois’ move would allow any immigrant with legal authorization to work, or who remains in the country under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Act, to apply for the position.”

CBS News Chicago reported last month, “Federal law states that only U.S. citizens can serve as police officers and deputies.”

There has been much opposition to the bill.

Republican Rep. Mary Miller of Illinois slammed the new law allowing non-U.S. citizens to become police officers on Saturday.

“At 5 p.m. yesterday, when no one was paying attention, Pritzker signed a bill to allow illegal immigrants to become police officers, giving non-citizens the power to arrest citizens in our state,” Miller wrote on Twitter. “No sane state would allow foreign nationals to arrest their citizens, this is madness!”

The Illinois Fraternal Order of Police declared earlier this month, “What message does this legislation send when it allows people who do not have legal status to become the enforcers of our laws? This is a potential crisis of confidence in law enforcement at a time when our officers need all the public confidence they can get.”

In May, Illinois state Sen. Chapin Rose (R) said it would be a “fundamental breach of democracy.”

“To hand the power to arrest and detain a citizen of this state, or a citizen of any state in the United States, to a non-citizen is a fundamental breach of democracy,” Rose proclaimed. “It is antithetical to the police power of any state.”

“It’s just a fundamentally bad idea,” he added.

The bill goes into effect in Illinois on Jan. 1, 2024.

In September 2022, California Gov. Gavin Newson signed Senate Bill 960 into law, which “repealed existing citizenship requirements for peace officers, including police, corrections and highway patrol officers,” according to the Associated Press.

Pritzker signed 130 bills into law on Friday – including House Bill 2297, which would require state agencies to add “non-binary” or “gender non-confirming” categories in their employment reports.

Devon Archer FLIPS on Biden Crime Family – Tells Congress Burisma Execs ‘Called DC’ to Get Ukrainian Prosecutor Viktor Shokin Fired… So Joe Biden Got Him Fired

Devon Archer has flipped on the Biden Crime Family.

Devon Archer, Hunter Biden’s longtime friend, and Rosemont Seneca business partner who is facing one year in prison on unrelated charges, appeared before the House Oversight Committee on Monday to testify on the Biden Crime Family.

Archer testified that Joe Biden was on more than 20 phone calls with Hunter’s business associates while he was serving as vice president between 2009 and 2017.

Archer told lawmakers the ‘Biden brand’ helped Ukrainian Natural Gas Company Burisma Holdings from going bankrupt.

A few days later Joe Biden forced Ukrainian officials to fire Viktor Shokin, or else!

Just The News reported:

The former business partner at the Rosemont Seneca firm, who was convicted in 2018 in a tribal bond fraud scheme, also told lawmakers that Hunter Biden was pressured in late 2015 to help deal with Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin’s corruption investigation as Joe Biden was preparing to travel to Ukraine.

“In December 2015, Mykola Zlochevsky, the owner of Burisma, and Vadym Pozharski, an executive of Burisma, placed constant pressure on Hunter Biden to get help from D.C. regarding the Ukrainian prosecutor, Viktor Shokin,” the source explained, recounting Archer’s testimony. “Shokin was investigating Burisma for corruption. Hunter Biden, along with Zlochevsky and Pozharski, ‘called D.C.’ to discuss the matter. Biden, Zlochevsky, and Pozharski stepped away to take make the call.”

A few days after that meeting, Joe Biden visited Ukraine as vice president and began an effort to force Ukraine’s president to fire Shokin, eventually threatening to withhold $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees if the termination did not happen. Biden’s defenders have long maintained the firing was not related to Burisma and was a result of U.S. policy because the Obama administration felt Shokin was corrupt.

Humiliating Student Test Results From LeBron James-Supported ‘I Promise School’ Draw Criticism

 LeBron James

Basketball legend LeBron James’ backed “I Promise School” in Akron, Ohio isn’t living up to the reputation of the celebrity-athlete who has put his time and resources into it, and the abysmal test scores prove that.

The I Promise School, a school for at-risk students started by James in order to provide additional academic opportunities and resources for his hometown, has shown in a recent report that none of the students in the school’s eighth-grade fall class passed Ohio’s standardized math test. In fact, they haven’t had any passing scores for years, it seems.

According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the last time any of the students examined in a recent report by Akron Public Schools (APS) passed the state’s math test was when they were third graders. An official from APS told the Journal that the findings in this report were nothing less than “discouraging” to say the least.

“It is discouraging,” said district director of school improvement Keith Liechty-Clifford.

The official mission statement of the I Promise School is to  help “those students who are already falling behind and in danger of falling through the cracks.” After these test result findings, maybe they should offer the kids a free Max subscription so they can watch LeBron ruin the ‘Space Jam’ franchise instead.

While the I Promise School is a public school and receives local, state, and federal funding like any other public school, it operates in partnership with the LeBron James Family Foundation. This adds a layer of involvement and resources beyond what is typically available in a standard public school setting.

In addition to academic support, the I Promise School provides resources such as a food pantry for families, GED classes for parents, and job placement assistance for family members. Furthermore, LeBron James has launched initiatives like the I Promise Housing development to provide affordable housing units in Akron.

Despite having the best of intentions though, ultimately this bad report card is raising serious concerns among school officials in the district. School board President Derrick Hall told reporters how disappointed he was with the results.

“For me as a board member, I just think about all the resources that we’re providing,” said Hall. “And I just, I’m just disappointed that I don’t think, it doesn’t appear like we’re seeing the kind of change that we would expect to see.”

A statement issued later by the LeBron James Family Foundation stated that “When we started this work to wraparound students through education, we entered this partnership with Akron Public School for the long haul.

“Because this work requires a long-term commitment, hard work, and a lot of love and care. And that’s what we bring each and every day because the I Promise School is more than a school. We’re here for the ups and downs, and will continue to wraparound our students and their entire families so they can be successful in school and in life, no matter the challenges and obstacles that come their way.”

Let’s hope that for the sake of the students, LeBron’s school actually keeps their hefty promise.

Trevor Loudon Delivered Terrifying Comments About Communist Activity In CT At CTRA Event Last Year

Trevor Loudon is an author, filmmaker and public speaker originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, though now he lives in the U.S. For more than 30 years, he has researched radical left, Marxist and terrorist movements and their covert influence on mainstream politics.

He came to speak at a special event entitled “Communists in Democrats’ Clothing” arranged by the Connecticut Republican Assembly (CTRA) last year (May 2022), and delivered a powerful, and frankly terrifying, message about Communism in Connecticut.

He started off his comments by pondering why Connecticut is important to the Communists.

“Why is Connecticut important? Well, you know, you’re right next to New York. You’re a big financial center here. You’re influential. You’ve got a lot of submarine bases here. You’ve got a lot of military technology here. The Communists targeted this state very early on because there’s money here, there’s military here, and they had a big bleed out from New York. The Communist Party’s headquarters was New York, and Connecticut was the place they bled out into and basically took over the state.”

Loudon thinks there are probably less than a thousand Communists here, perhaps 500-600, but that they have essentially taken over the state government. Well, not just the state government, he believes they are running the US government right now, too. He said the Communists are structured similar to the mafia, and operate with secret members, including attorneys on the payrolls, they own politicians and, of course, control labor unions.

He describes how the Communists are influencing policy decisions, how you can control a nation through socialized healthcare (Obamacare anyone?), what Communist-controlled groups operate in the state (e.g., Black Lives Matter, all of the labor unions, The Working Families Party, The New Haven Peace Council, Connecticut Alliance for Retired Americans), how many Connecticut politicians are tied to Communists (e.g., Governor Ned Lamont, Senator Richard “Danang Dick” Blumenthal, U.S. Rep John Larson, U.S. Rep Joe Courtney, U.S. Rep Rosa Delauro, U.S. Rep Jim Himes, U.S. Rep Jahana Hayes) and much more in this fascinating, eye-opening talk.

“When the Democrats are in power, the Communists are in power,” says Loudon.

“We are in a revolution folks. We’re in a revolution right now and they’re in the final states, and if we don’t do something, we’re going to lose it [our country]. We’re going to be run by China. We’re going to be run by horrible foreign dictators forever.”

It’s an absolutely sobering message.

And definitely a call to action for everyone to help save our country!

Dancing Shirtless Man Pumping Gas in New York Stabbed to Death by Offended Muslim

The religion of peace strikes again.

A shirtless man pumping gas in Brooklyn was stabbed to death by an offended Muslim over the weekend.

The victim, a gay black male, was pumping gas and dancing around in pink swim trunks when a group of Muslims confronted him about his ‘offensive’ behavior.

The suspect, a 17-year-old Muslim male, was seen on surveillance video stabbing the victim to death.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect said, ‘Oh, we’re Muslim, so don’t do this in front of me.’

New York Daily News reported:

A shirtless man whose friend was dancing exuberantly as they pumped gas at a Brooklyn Mobil station was stabbed to death by a stranger who said the men’s antics were offensive to the killer’s Muslim faith, a witness told the Daily News.

The NYPD is investigating the caught-on-video killing as a possible hate crime.

The mayhem started when the victim pulled up the the Mobil gas station on Coney Island Ave. near Avenue P in Midwood about 11:15 p.m. Saturday, cops said. He and his four friends, all shirtless in swim trunks on one of the hottest days of the year, got out of their white sedan to pump gas.

A friend of the victim in small tight trunks a witness described as “underwear” began dancing.

That’s when a group of men exiting the Mobil station started harassing the 28-year-old victim, clad in pink swim trunks, and his pals, according to Summy Ullah, 32, who witnessed the argument and slaying.

‘Know When to Walk Away’: Trump and Haley Call For Replacing McConnell After ‘Sad’ Freeze-Up

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) walks one day after freezing during a press conference, on Capitol Hill in Washington on July 27, 2023.

GOP presidential candidates Donald Trump and Nikki Haley are calling for Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to step down as the Senate Minority Leader after he recently turned unresponsive while speaking to reporters.

During a July 26 press conference, Mr. McConnell, 81, appeared to freeze up for around 20 seconds after he began delivering remarks. He was helped down from the podium and taken to his office. Mr. McConnell appeared later on to finish the press conference. “I thought it was sad,” Mr. Trump said about the incident in a July 27 interview with Breitbart.

When asked whether he wants to see a new Republican leader in the U.S. Senate, Mr. Trump replied: “We have to have that. We have some people in the Senate that are fantastic and would be great at that position.”

Former president and 2024 presidential hopeful Donald Trump speaks at the Turning Point Action USA conference in West Palm Beach, Fla., on July 15, 2023.

As for who the 45th president thinks would be a good replacement as Senate leader, Trump did not give a specific name but mentioned four Republicans he said are doing a great job as lawmakers.

“I think Jamie Comer is doing a great job," he said, referring to Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), adding that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) would also be a good candidate. "You have a lot of people in the House doing a great job." Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), he said, "is doing really well. He’s a tough cookie and he’s doing really well." Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), he added, "has done really, really well. A lot of people like what she has to say—a lot of people.”

Mr. Trump's former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, who is now his rival for the GOP presidential nomination for 2024, also called for replacing McConnell. “We’ve got to stop electing people because they look good in the picture or they hold a baby well,” she said in an interview with CBS.

“We’ve got to stop electing people because we like them and they’ve been there a long time. That’s actually the problem. You need to have term limits because we need new ideas, new solutions.”

She added that Mr. McConnell, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), 90, President Joe Biden, 80, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), 83, "all of them [should] know when to walk away. We have huge issues that need new solutions. We need new generational leaders.”

“We appreciate your service. We appreciate what you’ve done. But this is why we will fight for term limits. We’ve got to get it done in America.”

Ms. Haley wants every lawmaker to take a mental acuity test as well. When asked whether Mr. Trump, 77, should also take the mental acuity test, Haley replied in the affirmative.

“Republicans have lost the last seven out of eight popular votes for president. That’s nothing to be proud of. We should want to win the majority of Americans. We’ve got to start going with a new generation so that we can do that.”

Age Limits For Lawmakers

Calls for imposing age limits on lawmakers have arisen not only from the Republican camp but also from Democrats. The move is largely being pushed by younger lawmakers who are frustrated at the power structures that allow older lawmakers to retain authority in the political sphere.

poll by YouGov in January last year found that 58 percent of Americans wanted a maximum age limit for elected officials, with 39 percent wanting it to be 70 years, 24 percent opting for 60 years, and 23 percent saying 80 years.

The U.S. Constitution mentions the minimum age for the Senate and House but not the maximum. The average age of U.S. Senators at the time of the poll was 64, with House members having an average age of 58.

“Our analysis found that if senators over 60 were barred from holding office, 71 percent of current senators would be ineligible to serve. If the limit were 70, 30 percent would be ineligible. If it were 80, 6 percent would be ineligible.”

While those who want to impose an age limit insist that such a move would allow for fresh ideas to come forth in politics, critics say that older lawmakers bring in experience and wisdom that are crucial for positions of power.

In addition, senior lawmakers tend to have already developed a bigger reputation and larger donor networks, which play a key role in winning elections.

No Plans on Stepping Down

Though calls for his resignation have sprung up since the recent incident, Mr. McConnell has rejected the calls.

“Leader McConnell appreciates the continued support of his colleagues, and plans to serve his full term in the job they overwhelmingly elected him to do,” a spokesperson for Mr. McConnell said. He was reelected as the Republican Senate leader in January 2023. The next election for the post is scheduled for January 2025.

Mr. McConnell was reelected to the Senate in 2020. His term, which began in January 2021, lasts for six years. Mr. McConnell has been in office since 1984, and took the position of Republican Senate leader in 2006.

Following the incident, an aide told reporters that the lawmaker had “stepped away for a moment” as he felt “lightheaded” during the conference. “He came back to handle Q and A, which, as everyone observed, was sharp.”

On March 8, McConnell had fallen during a private dinner, which led to him being admitted to a hospital for a rib fracture and concussion. He was discharged a week later on March 13 and had to attend inpatient physical therapy.

Earlier this year, Mr. McConnell became the Senate’s longest-serving GOP leader. In his GOP primary race in 2020, McConnell won 82 percent support.
