Francistan : 27 police officers reported for radicalization after Paris attack

Since the terrorist attack at Police HQ of Paris earlier this month, 27 police officers from the Paris prefecture alone have been reported radicalization.

The news comes as reports of radicalization among police have skyrocketed in recent times, French broadcaster BFM TV report.

On October 3rd, four police officers were stabbed to death at police headquarters in Paris by a police IT expert, whose office colleagues failed to notify their superiors about unsettling changes in his behavior.

Of the 27 officers who’ve been reported, three are the subject of requests for suspension by the Prefect of Police and two have been disarmed. Of the two officers who’ve been disarmed, one was assigned to the Regional Directorate of Judicial Police and the other acted as a peacekeeper in Villeneuve-la-Garenne (Hauts-de-Seine) suburb in northern Paris.

The ultimate fates of these officers, however, have yet to be decided.

The profiles of the officers who were reported are said to be quite similar, with most of them having the rank of Guardian of the peace or officers.

Due to the recent uptick in radicalizations among French police, the Prefect of Police has released a memo which reads: “In case of detection of signs of a possible radicalization of an agent, it is important to report it immediately and directly to the hierarchy,’ reads this note. There are many signs and clues that can trigger a reporting procedure, such as physical and clothing changes, the refusal to shake hands with female staff, a sudden rejection of daily habits.”

Following the attack on the police headquarters in Paris which left four people dead, French President Emmanuel Macron called for ‘a society of vigilance, asking French citizens to identify individuals around them who show signs of being radicalized.
