Thomas Fahmy said he was walking along Todt Hill when he was struck just 15 to 25 feet from his vehicle.

Fahmy, who had been carrying an umbrella, collapsed to the ground after the lightning bolt struck.

The terrifying incident was captured on camera.

Fahmy remained conscious and recalled the electricity surge through his body.

“It was a very intense burning sensation, tingling, numbness, pain. Severe pain in both of my feet,” he said about the near-death experience.

Fahmy remained on the ground in the residential neighborhood for a few moments before he cried out for help.

He caught the attention of neighbor Stefanie Homan, who had been inside her home during the booming strike.

“I heard yelling, heard ‘help me, help me,’ so I ran to my door and saw him down here on the ground, so I got the phone and called 911,” she told WNBC.

Fahmy was monitored at Northwell Staten Island University Hospital overnight.

He miraculously did not suffer any burns or other major injuries.

The hospital released him the following day.

Fahmy has worked as a staffer in Malliotakis’s Staten Island Office since 2022. The New York Republican said Monday that she and her staff were relieved by his recovery.

“We are grateful that Thomas, a member of my congressional staff is alive and well after being struck by lightning last week,” Malliotakis said in a statement Monday. “I thank the good samaritan who ran to his aid and the medical staff at Staten Island University Hospital who treated him.”

Fahmy, who described himself as religious, said the close call gave him a new perspective on life.

“Appreciate life, smile and breathe fresh air once in a while and don’t let life overwhelm you,” he said.
