Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has a message for American voters ahead of the midterms: turn against President Trump and change the government in Washington.
A hostile regime is trying to sell Americans on a political outcome that serves Tehran. America’s interests deserve to come first.
IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi presented the regime’s open letter on September 29, five weeks before the November 3 congressional elections. Its demands attack President Trump’s direction and urge Americans to remove the politicians steering U.S. policy.
Handing Congress to Democrats would give the president’s opponents more power to obstruct his agenda. That is the political opening Tehran’s anti-Trump appeal is seeking, even though the letter does not explicitly name the Democratic Party.
The regime’s appeal puts its effort to turn American voters against Washington out in the open:
Tasnim News Agency reproduced the full letter, which tells Americans that their votes empower the government and that they can change its makeup. The IRGC urges them to remove political leaders and press Washington to distance itself from Israel.
The letter dresses those demands in talk of peaceful coexistence and denies hostility toward the American people. It also tries to recast the regime’s longstanding “Death to America” slogan as an attack on political leaders rather than on Americans.
Then comes the sales pitch: Iran claims victory in its confrontation with the United States while warning that America’s economy is headed toward collapse. Tehran wants Americans to accept its account of the war and change their politics accordingly, all while presenting the regime as a friendly guide to America’s future.
That is quite a lecture from the Revolutionary Guard. Americans have every reason to question a regime that wraps its own strategic demands in promises of friendship.

Its account also puts Tehran’s warnings about economic collapse alongside an uncomfortable fact for Iran’s rulers: the dollar traded above 2.5 million rials on Iran’s free market on September 29.
The report describes a letter that portrays Iran as victorious and America as a declining power, then asks American voters to change their government. It also notes that the letter closes by pressing Americans to demand a break between Washington and Israel.
Iran’s rulers are issuing dire warnings about America while their own currency is under severe pressure. Their predictions about the United States deserve scrutiny, especially when they are attached to a demand for political change.

Americans deserve a government focused on their security and prosperity. A foreign military organization attacking President Trump has no standing to tell us how to vote, and its promises of friendship should earn no automatic trust.
Tehran is taking its fight into America’s political debate, asking voters to deliver the change in Washington it wants. We should recognize that pressure campaign for what it is.
Diplomacy was moving at the same time. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was awaiting an official U.S. response through Qatar to its proposal concerning the Strait of Hormuz.
That was a pending proposal, with no accepted deal announced in the statement. Araghchi’s remarks show Iran seeking an answer from Washington while the IRGC tries to influence Americans directly:
Americans can debate the war, demand answers from Washington, and hold their leaders accountable. We do not need the Revolutionary Guard telling us which political outcome will supposedly save our country.
President Trump’s policies should be judged by what they deliver for America. Tehran’s wish list belongs nowhere near the top of that calculation.
Our elections belong to the American people. Our government should put the American people first.
