Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Tuesday that Canada is pledging $100 million in new aid for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada is pledging $100 million in new aid for Palestine in an effort to preserve "the possibility of a two-state solution."

The funding includes $80 million in humanitarian aid, while the rest is development funding for security initiatives, including top-up funds for a multi-year project to train police in the West Bank.

Carney announced the funding on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

He said Palestinians in Gaza are experiencing "immense human suffering" while Israelis face "existential threats from Hamas and from Iran and its proxies."

Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced $100 million in assistance for Palestine. He also spoke out against Israel's planned E1 settlement in the West Bank, which he said is one of the reasons Canada has put restrictions on importing goods produced in 'illegal Israeli settlements.' Carney said these actions from Canada work toward 'the preservation of the possibility of a two-state solution.'

Ottawa has pledged more than $600 million in aid for Palestinian civilians since the Israel-Hamas war started in October 2023.

New documents tabled in Parliament this week list the damage done to dozens of Canadian-funded aid projects by Israel's military and settlers.

In a joint statement with France and the United Kingdom earlier this month, Canada announced it would ban the import of goods from West Bank settlements, citing settler violence as a reason for the move.

Carney also spoke out on Tuesday against Israel's planned E1 settlement that critics say would split the West Bank in two.
