A mass shooting in Sweden has left at least ten people dead and several more injured, according to breaking news reports.
The shooting occurred at an adult education center for migrants in Orebro near the nation’s capital of Stockholm.
Police believe that the perpetrator of today’s attack is among the dead.
Speaking at a news conference, authorities said “around 10” people had died after the shooting.
The total number of people injured is currently unclear, police added.
“Right now we are identifying the dead,” Orebro’s chief of local police Roberto Eid Forest said during a news conference.
Police added they do not expect any further attacks.
Authorities say they don’t believe there is a terror motive but this is not conclusive at this time.
A post on the website for the Swedish police reads:
“About ten people have been killed in the incident.
“We are currently working on identification.
“The total number of injured is currently unclear.”
Orebro is the sixth-biggest city in Sweden.
The city is around 125 miles west of Stockholm and has an estimated population of around 126,000.
The adult education center where the attack took place is on the outskirts of Orebro
The school, Campus Risbergska, serves students who are over the age of 20, according to its website.
The education center mostly teaches classes for adult immigrants, such as Swedish lessons, high school courses, and vocational training.
The school also offers programs for adults with intellectual disabilities.
Police have so far been unable to give a definitive figure for the number of people killed in today’s attack.
Orebro’s police chief says this is due to the damage at the crime scene being so extensive that investigators were unable to be precise.
Chief Forest describes it as a “horrible” incident, calling it “exceptional” and a “nightmare.”
Following that news conference by police, Katrin Kantz, a crime reporter for the national Swedish newspaper Expressen, revealed new details.
Kantz revealed that the shooter was not known to police prior to the attack.
“He has no prior record,” Kants reports.
“He’s not known by the police in any way.
“There is some information that he might have had a license for a gun, but we’re not sure of that.
“He has no criminal record whatsoever.
“Everything points at a typical loner attack.”

In an address to the public, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson described the attack as the “worst mass shooting in Sweden’s history.”
He also urges people to give the police the space to do their work.
It comes amid reports they are carrying out raids on several properties.
Swedish police say they have carried out “several investigative measures” this afternoon at various addresses in Orebro.
“Work at the crime scene continues, including technical personnel,” the police update adds.
Reuters revealed that a police operation was taking place in Polhemsgatan, Orebro, in connection to a search of the home of the shooter.
Speaking alongside PM Kristersson, Gunnar Strommer, the justice minister, says it is difficult to take in the magnitude of what has happened today.
“We know that about ten people have been killed and many others are injured,” he says.
“Our police and healthcare workers are taking care of these people.
“The primary suspect is now considered to be one of the people that died.
“It was a person not known to the police previously.
“We still don’t know why this happened or what the motives could have been.
“We hope to have those answers.”
