Romanian Opposition Leader Promises A Foreign Policy Similar To Poland And Hungary

George Simion, President of Romania’s leading opposition party, the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), promised that if his party comes to power in next year’s elections, it will change the country’s constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman and to enshrine in it the right to make cash payments. With elections approaching, AUR is currently leading in the polls.

In an interview with the Romanian media, Simion said, “Marriage between a man and a woman must be defined in the Constitution so that we no longer have problems of any kind with the European Court of Human Rights. Second, to limit cash payments to 10,000 lei and enshrine the right to pay in cash in the Constitution, following the model of Austria and other European countries. That’s what we will do when we govern,”

Simion made these promises in response to a new fiscal package adopted by the Ciolacu Government lowering the limit of cash payments for a single person to 1,000 lei. At the same time, LGBT activists are pushing for the legalization of marriages between people of the same sex, following a decision by the European Court of Human Rights.

Simion harshly criticized Romania’s globalist government led by the Social Democrat Party (PSD). “PSD is affiliated with the Socialist International, which no longer has red as its color, but the rainbow,” Simion explained. “You won’t see us asking to leave NATO and the EU, but you will see us using our right of veto. We want a foreign policy similar to that of Poland and Hungary.”
