Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is taking on new responsibilities in 2023, joining Columbia University as a full-time faculty member, the school announced on Thursday.
Clinton, who also served as a New York senator, will join the School of International and Public Affairs as a professor of practice in February, the press release confirmed.
“She is a remarkable leader who has been on the front lines of virtually every critical challenge facing our world today — from the global fight to save democracy, her advocacy for women’s rights, and her staunch defense of marginalized people everywhere,” Keren Yarhi-Milo, the dean of the school, wrote.
“She now brings her leadership and expertise to SIPA as we seek to prepare the next generation of global policy leaders,” she continued.
The former first lady will also serve as a presidential fellow with Columbia World Projects, working on initiatives related to global politics and policy and female leaders in those professions, the statement explained.
She will also be expected to support programs related to protecting democracy and engaging women and young people worldwide.
“Columbia’s commitment to educating the next generation of U.S. and global policy leaders, translating insights into impact, and helping to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges resonates personally with me,” Clinton said in a statement.
“I look forward to contributing to these efforts,” she added.
Clinton, who has served as a law professor in the past, has been rumored to be in talks with the university since 2017, a year after she lost her second presidential election to Donald Trump.
She earned an honorary degree from the school last spring and delivered remarks at the graduation ceremony.
