Twitter suspends user for saying a man cannot get pregnant

 

If you don’t live in Spain and you’ve never heard of Francisco José Contreras, you’re to be forgiven. He’s not exactly a household name in international politics. But he’s an elected official who serves as a deputy in Spain’s Vox party, so he has a voice that carries some weight in Spanish politics. That voice disappeared from Twitter for the better part of a day recently, however. The Twitter lords deemed that one of Contreras’ tweets represented hate speech and suspended his account until he agreed to delete it. So what was it that the Spanish politician wrote that was so hateful? Did he use the n-word or defend antisemitism? Nope. He commented on a recent news item announcing the birth of a child to a transgender parent, saying that a man can’t become pregnant because they lack a uterus or eggs. And that was enough for Twitter to give him the boot.

Francisco José Contreras, deputy to Spain’s far-right Vox Party, was locked out of his Twitter account for 12 hours last week after saying “a man cannot get pregnant” because they have “no uterus or eggs.”

Contreras’ comments were in response to an article he shared on the social media platform about a transgender male who announced they were a father after giving birth to a baby girl.

Contreras said in a Facebook post on May 11 that he had received a message from Twitter which informed him that he had violated its policies on “hate speech” for the remarks.”

This is another example of the phenomenon I was discussing earlier today when we learned that Harry Windsor (formerly “Prince Harry”) had gotten himself a job combatting “misinformation.” The problem with any sort of fact-checking operation is that it quickly becomes tyrannical when someone decides that they are now the arbiters of what is or isn’t factual. And that’s what we’re seeing here.

Twitter and Facebook, along with most of the social media giants, have adopted the platforms of the LGBT agenda and Black Lives Matter, along with the Green New Deal and pretty much every other liberal activist group out there. Rather than monitoring people’s speech for factual inaccuracies, they have created a system of rules where political opinions replace science and insufficiently woke commentary is flushed down the memory hole.

At most, what Contreras said could be considered rude, assuming you find that failing to refer to someone with gender dysphoria as the gender they “identify” as is problematic. But beyond that, what he really pointed out is basic medical science. A lot goes into creating a baby, and ovaries, fallopian tubes, and a womb to allow normal gestation are requirements. Whether gender dysphoria remains a medical condition or a “lifestyle choice” is a topic that is still debated among various medical associations. How that statement winds up being classified as “hate speech” is precisely what’s wrong with the tyrannical approach that Twitter takes toward fact-checking and censorship.

Contreras eventually bowed to Twitter’s hostage demands and deleted his tweet, which is how they manage to win in the end and stifle debate. But upon returning, he suggested that what Twitter had done was “already fascist biology,” going on to say, “Next time I’ll try 2 + 2 = 4.” I’ll wish Mr. Contreras luck with that, but he might want to hold off. Two plus two only equals four until somebody at the ACLU or BLM declares that it equals five. After that, math will be verboten on our social media platforms.
