The Post Millennial can report exclusively that a left-wing journalist is linked to a video showing a death threat made against Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler.
The Portland Police Bureau with assistance from the FBI are investigating a video death threat made against Mayor Ted Wheeler by a self-described Antifa collective. The Post Millennial can report exclusively that a left-wing journalist is linked to the video.
The disturbing two-minute video was posted Wednesday night on Twitter by a newly created account named, “@knotathreat.” It was quickly shared and promoted among Portland’s Antifa and extremist far-left accounts. TPM is not posting the video because it includes a home address associated with Wheeler. The video shows a masked person standing in front of a MAX Light Rail train in downtown Portland while a distorted voice narrates a speech.
“We come to you as a small collective from within the anarchist and antifascist community."“We are not just challenging the idea of having Ted as a mayor. We are challenging the idea of having mayors at all. We want abolition. Abolition is absolute.”
The narration plays over scenes of rioting, arson and violence.
The narrator rejects peaceful protests and voting, claiming that violence is necessary when “those in power have proven they are unwilling to listen and have made the choice to ignore you.”
Toward the end of the video, the narrator says: “Ted, we are asking for the last time that you resign. If you ignore this message outright, the destruction to your precious way of life is going to escalate. Blood is already on your hands, Ted. And next time it may just be your own.”
Toward the ending sequence, an address tied to Wheeler is shown on the screen. A laugh plays at the same time.
The account that uploaded the video Wednesday was created on the same day. Twitter user “@Hazeee1312” was the first person to follow the account and to share the video to Antifa networks. “1312” is the numeric coding for “ACAB” — all cops are bastards.
@Hazeee1312’s profile photo showed a person wearing the same stylized white mask as the person in the video threat. Within hours of sharing the video, @Hazeee1312 deleted his entire account, which was created back in 2013.
TPM can report exclusively that the @Hazeee1312 account was operated by far-left journalist, Jarrid Bailey Huber. The 21-year-old from Damascus, Ore. has been a staple at Antifa protests and riots in Portland and elsewhere in the U.S.
Huber’s Facebook page is filled with flyers advertising BLM-Antifa events. His now-deleted Twitter account also shared extremist content from Antifa accounts. On Wednesday he also briefly shared the video on his Facebook but quickly deleted the post. A February 2020 post by Huber used language against Wheeler similar to what was said by the narrator in one part of the video.
When reached for comment, Huber denied having any involvement in the video.
“I had nothing to do with this video, I was asked to share it and that is all I did,” Huber wrote in an email.
When asked who asked him to promote the video, he responded, “an anonymous person.” Huber then said he did not give permission for his name to be used in this report and refused to answer further inquiries.
Wheeler’s office sent TPM the following statement: “The Police Bureau has opened an investigation into the threat.”
Additionally, FBI Portland’s spokesperson Beth Anne Steele released the following statement:
“The FBI is aware of the video and is assisting Portland Police Bureau in the investigation. Due to the on-going nature of the case, we have no further information to release at this time. Anyone with information as to the person or people responsible for this video are encouraged to contact the FBI or PPB. The FBI can be reached at (503) 224-4181 or via tips.fbi.gov.”
Huber is the latest journalist to be linked to or arrested over far-left extremism. Earlier this month, University of Oregon journalism student Alma Yesenia Raven-Guido was charged with multiple felonies over her alleged role in carrying out arson attacks during Antifa rioting in Portland. The same week, Miguel Louis Lofland, who calls for political violence on his social media, was arrested in Olympia, Wash. at an Antifa riot. He was wearing a homemade “Antifa News Network” press badge at the time. In December 2020, journalist Renea Baek Goddard was indicted in Little Rock, Ark. following a months-long ATF investigation. She’s accused of firebombing police cruisers at BLM riots last summer.
