During the Trump administration, "authoritarianism" became a Democrat talking point, claiming to link genuinely totalitarian regimes, e.g. Russia, China, to President Trump, and to any countries whose leaders were legitimately elected, but they didn't like, e.g. Netanyahu, Bolsonaro, combined with claims of a creeping authoritarianism worldwide.
The cynical talking point has now become a farce.
"American leadership must meet this new moment of advancing authoritarianism, including the growing ambitions of China to rival the United States," Biden said, in a speech someone else wrote for him.
China is authoritarian. But Biden is giving this speech from a capital now under indefinite military occupation where he and his party are attempting to purge their political opponents. His previous administration used national security as a pretext for spying on them while accusing them of being linked to foreign powers.
Sure, Joe isn't running over political opponents with tanks. Yet. But there's only so much daylight between the 25th Amendment resolution that every House Democrat voted for, the attempts to impeach President Trump and force out Republican Senate members using the 14th Amendment, and the purge of political opponents by corporations, not to mention the massive attempt to federalize and rig elections by House Democrats and the way Putin does business.
Yeah, no one's being served radioactive tea. Yet. But if the metric here is authoritarianism, rather than murder, then the Democrats and Biden are quite authoritarian. And any country listening to a lecture from Bidenito about authoritarianism in a militarized society purging its political opponents is going to laugh.
