Fourth person arrested in connection to slain retired Chicago firefighter

A fourth person has been arrested in connection with a botched Dec. 3 carjacking that killed a retired Chicago firefighter, authorities said Friday.

Chicago police Superintendent David Brown said on Twitter that the FBI arrested the unidentified suspect in Pennsylvania and that person is being held on a $2 million warrant charging him with murder.

“We’re seeking his immediate extradition back to Chicago. Great work by CPD detectives & federal law enforcement,” Brown said in the tweet.

A Chicago police spokesman Friday evening that he could not provide the person’s name or other information about the matter.  An FBI spokeswoman in Pennsylvania declined to provide further details.  Three other people have been charged previously in the slaying of Dwain Williams, a retired Chicago fire lieutenant who traded shots with gunmen as they approached during an apparent ambush.Devin Barron, 20, of Lynwood, is facing first-degree murder charges, as well as a weapons charge after being arrested at a south suburban hotel, according to Chicago police and Cook County prosecutors. Two others, one a 15-year-old boy, already have been charged in the shooting death of Williams.

The Tribune has previously reported that police believe the would-be car thieves were members of a “crew” that stole cars in the south suburbs.

Police said previously that Barron was one of two gunmen who emerged from the rear of a stolen black Ford Fusion that followed Williams’ maroon Jeep Grand Cherokee to a popcorn shop in the 2400 block of West 118th Street in the Beverly Woods neighborhood.

They waited for him to come out, and the three left the Ford and confronted Williams, 65. He pulled out a revolver from his waistband and fired, police said. Williams was hit once in the abdomen and collapsed. The three got back into the car and sped away.
