Columbia President Claire Shipman Privately Said School Needed To Add an 'Arab' Board Member—and Remove a Jewish One

'We need to get somebody from the middle east or who is Arab on our board,' wrote Shipman. 'Quickly I think.'

July 1, 2025

Before she became the acting president of Columbia University, Claire Shipman argued that the school needed to get an "Arab on our board" and suggested that a Jewish trustee should be removed over her pro-Israel advocacy, according to text messages obtained by the House Committee on Education and Workforce.

"We need to get somebody from the middle east [sic] or who is Arab on our board," Shipman, then the co-chair of Columbia’s board of trustees, wrote in a message on January 17, 2024. "Quickly I think. Somehow."

A week later, Shipman told a colleague that Shoshana Shendelman, one of the board’s most outspoken critics of campus anti-Semitism, had been "extraordinarily unhelpful," adding, "I just don’t think she should be on the board."

The messages were included in a letter sent to Columbia on Tuesday by committee chair Tim Walberg (R., Mich.) and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R., NY). Addressing Shipman by name, the committee requested "clarifications on the attached correspondence," arguing that it appeared to downplay anti-Semitism on Columbia's campus and could even violate civil rights law.

The remark about needing an Arab board member "raises troubling questions regarding Columbia’s priorities just months after the October 7th attack, which was the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust," they wrote. "Were Columbia to … appoint someone to the board specifically because of their national origin, it would implicate TItle VI concerns."

The exchanges about Shendelman, they continued, "raise the question of why you appeared to be in favor of removing one of the board’s most outspoken Jewish advocates at a time when Columbia students were facing a shocking level of fear and hostility."

In a statement to the Washington Free Beacon, Columbia claimed the messages had been taken out of context.

"These communications were provided to the Committee in the fall of 2024 and reflect communications from more than a year ago," the school said. "They are now being published out of context and reflect a particularly difficult moment in time for the University when leaders across Columbia were intensely focused on addressing significant challenges."

Columbia declined to provide additional context for the messages on the record.

The release of the messages comes as Columbia enters its fourth month of negotiations with the Trump administration, which cut $400 million to the school in March over campus anti-Semitism. The road to restoring those funds has been rocky: At a disastrous deposition in April, former Columbia president Katrina Armstrong told the government that she could not recall a single incident from the university’s own anti-Semitism report. Two months later, the Education Department notified Columbia’s accreditor that the school was out of compliance with its accreditation standards, prompting the university to issue a statement on its commitment to "combating anti-Semitism."

"We take this issue seriously and are continuing to work with the federal government to address it," the school said.

The messages could upend that work at a time when the university is laying off scientists due to the Trump administration’s cuts. They also offer a window into what Shipman, who has repeatedly pledged to follow the law, really thinks about the government’s efforts to enforce it—or, as she put it in a December 2023 text message, "the capital [sic] hill nonsense and threat."

"Your reference to ‘capital [sic] hill nonsense’ is disturbing given Congress’s role in conducting oversight to ensure universities are fulfilling their obligations to protect Jewish students," Walberg and Stefanik's letter reads. "Congress’s efforts to ensure the safety and security of Jewish students—who make up almost a quarter of your campus population—is not ‘capital [sic] hill nonsense.’"

Some of the most revealing messages concern Shendelman, the trustee Shipman said should be removed from the board. At the height of the anti-Israel encampment last year, Shipman told vice-chair Wanda Greene to keep Shendelman in the dark about the school’s plans to negotiate with the protesters, claiming that she was "fishing for information" that could force the school’s hand as it resisted calling the police.

"Do you believe that she is a mole?" Greene asked on April 22, 2024. "A Fox in the henhouse?"

"I do," Shipman replied.

While most faculty wanted to avoid a confrontation with law enforcement, Shipman explained, Shendelman was one of several trustees who felt it was time to restore order. The school did not call police until activists occupied a campus building—and allegedly took a janitor hostage—more than one week later, resulting in dozens of arrests.

Greene and Shipman also expressed their personal dislike of Shendelman, a biotech executive whose family fled Iran during the Iranian Revolution.

"I’m tired of her," Green texted. "So so tired," Shipman responded.

HUGE! Dirty FBI Blocked Investigation Into 2020 Chinese Mail-In Voting Scam to Protect Chris Wray Who Likely Lied to Congress

On Tuesday Senator Chuck Grassley released new information from declassified documents that reveal the FBI blocked an investigation into the allegations that the Chinese Communist Party manufactured thousands of fake driver’s licenses and shipped them to the US in a scheme to help Joe Biden win the election by fraudulent mail-in votes.

The FBI hid the investigation in order to protect dirty FBI Director Chris Wray who had lied to Congress about the election.

Senator Chuck Grassley reported this earlier today.

There is No Way this is not criminal activity by the FBI… This press release is just shocking!

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) today released internal Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) emails revealing the FBI suppressed intelligence of alleged Chinese interference in the 2020 election to insulate then-FBI Director Christopher Wray from criticism, after Wray provided inaccurate and contradictory testimony to Congress.

The FBI declassified and provided the requested records to Grassley, along with an accompanying cover letter, after Grassley initially received some information from whistleblower disclosures. The FBI emails offer an inside look at the Bureau’s decision to recall and suppress an Intelligence Information Report (IIR) from the FBI’s Albany Field Office on September 25, 2020. The IIR contained information from an FBI Confidential Human Source (CHS) alleging the Chinese government was producing “tens of thousands” of fraudulent drivers’ licenses to manufacture mail-in votes for then-presidential candidate Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

According to the FBI, these allegations, despite showing initial signs of credibility, were allegedly never fully investigated due to the FBI’s sudden and “abnormal” decision to halt the investigation and bury the IIR’s existence, preventing any additional FBI field offices, as well as other Intelligence Community elements, from accessing or studying the document. The FBI’s stated reason for doing so was because “the reporting will contradict Director Wray’s testimony.”

In June current FBI Director Kash Patel announced that the FBI has located documents that detail alarming allegations related to the 2020 U.S. election, including allegations of interference by the CCP.

According to Kash, the communist Chinese were involved in a plot to create thousands of fake mail-in ballots in 2020 using fake voter registrations.

And, it should be clear that China was not creating fake ballots to assist Donald Trump. The Chi-Coms detested Trump for what he had done to their economy. Trump was the only US president in decades to take on the Chinese Communist Party. China was helping Old Joe Biden win the election.

Kash tweeted out this report from Just The News on Monday afternoon.

At around this same time then FBI Director Chris Wray said Russia was “absolutely intent” on trying to interfere in the 2020 election. He ignored the Chinese threat.

And, as The Gateway Pundit has previously reported, Chris Wray knew that the Iranians breached the election system in 2020 and stole 100,000 identities and Wray hid this from the American public.

Exactly how many times did dirty Chris Wray lie to the American public about what he knew about the 2020 election? And, will he get away with this?

Media Concedes: Trump’s Tariffs Boost Government Revenue and Don’t Hurt Consumers.

PULSE POINTS

❓WHAT HAPPENED: Despite corporate media claims, President Donald J. Trump’s tariff policies appear to be working as the White House has stated, increasing government tax revenue with minimal impact on domestic consumer prices.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: President Trump, U.S. corporations, foreign producers, American consumers, conservatives, and critics of the administration’s tariff policies.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Ongoing debate in 2025, with tariffs implemented in February and April.

🎯IMPACT: Tariffs have generated over $121 billion in revenue without increasing consumer prices, challenging critics’ negative predictions.

IN FULL

The corporate media is being forced to admit that President Donald J. Trump’s tariff policies are working, with the U.S. collecting over $121 billion in tariff revenue, little evidence that the trade duties are impacting domestic consumers, and inflation continuing to cool. For weeks leading up to the April 2 ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs, so-called experts insisted that Trump’s imposition of import levies would reignite inflation. However, as The National Pulse has repeatedly pointed out, tariffs have traditionally had deflationary effects, and under Trump, inflation has continued to cool.

Contrary to establishment predictions, consumer prices have not risen, leaving opponents scrambling to explain the data. Some still forecast a belated economic disaster, while others acknowledge the potential for tariffs to help pay down the national debt over time. Misconceptions about tariffs persist, with many believing they are a tax on foreign producers.

In reality, tariffs are taxes on companies sourcing goods internationally from targeted nations. These companies face a choice: adapt by sourcing from the U.S. or non-targeted countries to keep costs low, or find alternative ways to absorb the expenses. Raising prices is often a last resort, as consumers can easily cut back on non-essential goods.

Critics, including some Democrats and conservatives, had predicted sharp price increases as corporations passed tariff costs onto consumers. However, inflation data, such as the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge and the Consumer Price Index (CPI), has remained relatively stable, contradicting these forecasts. Some attribute this to “front-loading” of imports before tariffs took effect, but that explanation fails to account for sustained stability months after implementation.

At the current pace, tariffs could generate approximately $300 billion in revenue by year-end and $1.2 trillion over four years. While this revenue won’t offset all debt spending, it provides an alternative to tax hikes on the public. If inflation concerns remain overstated, tariffs could become a long-term strategy for economic growth and debt reduction.

LOFTUS: Iconic Car’s Collapse Shows What Humans Actually Want (And Need)

Rita Pavone

Jaguar, the iconic luxury car company, is seeing its sales crash in a shocking free-fall.

The brand underwent a drastic overhaul in November 2024, offering drivers a glimpse of their future EV designs, which were uglier than sin. The accompanying ad was also a bizarre breakaway from their old style and M.O., and featured androgynous actors and actresses in a kind of performance art that one might see on the third floor of a modern art museum.

Since then, Jaguar’s sales have tanked by 97.5% in Europe. Across the entire continent, a mere 49 vehicles were registered in April 2025. Between January and April, Jaguar only sold 2,665 units, marking a 75.1% sales decline year-to-date. Worldwide, the company sold 180,833 units in 2018. But in fiscal year 2024/2025, that number plummeted to 26,862 units.

The collapse is somewhat reminiscent of Bud Light’s debacle, the difference being that Bud Light never altered its product; Jaguar did.

Although Anheuser-Busch hired transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney to promote its beer, the beer itself remained the same. The brewing process and ingredients were not altered to be more sustainable. The can color did not change, nor did the logo. Online conservatives may have been calling the beer “groomer juice,” but Anheuser-Busch did not alter the beverage into hard Kombucha.

Jaguar, on the other hand, has slowly thrown away its entire history, from the ornate logo to the sleek designs and gorgeously detailed leather interiors. Not only did the brand go woke, but it also went ugly. Its essence was changed, from class and beauty, to dystopian and hideous.

Perhaps the nosedive in sales can be attributed to the concept of “wokeness,” but it is also just as likely caused by Jaguar’s radical departure from its aesthetic roots, abandoning aesthetically pleasing cars. Even if the November 2024 ad featured straight, classy, well-dressed individuals who actually looked like men and women, and even if their new logo did not change an iota, the ugliness of the company’s current and future fleets of cars would still turn off potential buyers. Why? Because they are woeful eyesores. It may have nothing to do with an ad featuring non-binary, transgenders. It’s simply the aesthetics of the vehicle.

Humans do not just want beauty; we need it. We need beautiful books, paintings, music, movies, buildings and homes, and yes, cars, to feel more civilized; to feel closer to God; to distinguish ourselves from other species that cannot intuitively comprehend beauty or the feelings it inspires. Without beauty in the world and in our daily lives, we are robbed of something essential that makes us human. It’s hard to explain, but we all feel it. No one wants to live in an ugly world.

Jaguar could reverse the trend just as quickly as it started by bringing back its old designs. Any car company, for that matter, would rake in the profits if only they made vehicles that were obvious nods to the timeless designs of the 20th century. More leather. More buttons. Fewer screens. Sharper lines and harder angles. Old school. Those sorts of cars would sell like hot cakes.

USAID Is Done For, And the Presidents and Pop Stars Who Enabled It Are Whining Bigly

The entrance to the shuttered USAID office is pictured in Washington, D.C., on April 1.

Commentary
The entrance to the shuttered USAID office is pictured in Washington, D.C., on April 1.

Pour one out for USAID, the biggest victim of the Department of Government Efficiency.

Monday was the final day for the U.S. Agency for International Development — the wasteful, swampy foreign development bureau beloved among the Beltway elite. On Tuesday, the agency responsible for spending your taxpayer dollars on Peruvian transgender comic books and DEI musicals in Ireland will be absorbed into the Department of State, where presumably its employees will have to justify their existence within the federal bureaucracy by, like, actual results. The successor to the agency will be called America First, which assumedly means no grants for diversity training among sea creatures in underprivileged Caribbean reef systems.

However, leave it to three of the most disappointing public figures of the 21st century — Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and U2 lead singer Bono, who hasn’t produced a decent album in 25 years — to give USAID what the Associated Press described as an “emotional video farewell.”

“The former presidents and Bono spoke with thousands in the USAID community in a videoconference, which was billed as a closed-press event to allow political leaders and others privacy for sometimes angry and often teary remarks,” the wire service reported about the whine-fest.

Obama was predictably the big-ticket draw (do you really think that many hardcore USAID fanatics harbor a secret longing to go back to the days of Dubya now that Bush 43 and the Cheneys are playing the RINO card?), and he talked about how the shuttering was “a colossal mistake” — a sure sign President Donald Trump’s administration is on the right track.

“Your work has mattered and will matter for generations to come,” Obama said, in words that will doubtlessly ring just as true in the years to come as “if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” did.

“Gutting USAID is a travesty, and it’s a tragedy. Because it’s some of the most important work happening anywhere in the world,” he continued.

“Ending your presence and your programs out in the world hurts the most vulnerable, and it hurts the United States,” Obama added, saying that “to many people around the world, USAID is the United States,” The New York Times reported.

He added, per the AP, that “sooner or later, leaders on both sides of the aisle will realize how much you are needed.”

Evidence for that? Apparently getting Dubya to show up and give some Dubya-worthy quotes.

“You’ve showed the great strength of America through your work — and that is your good heart,” Bush said. “Is it in our national interests that 25 million people who would have died now live? I think it is, and so do you.”

Whoever was responsible for spending that money on Peruvian transgender comics was either unavailable for comment or unasked by the AP. I’m going with the latter. Just a hunch.

And then, of course, we have the moral exhibitionist known as Bono (driver’s license name Paul David Hewson), who made sure that he commemorated the passing of USAID in what is inarguably the most Bono-ish way possible:

Bono, a longtime humanitarian advocate in Africa and elsewhere, was announced as the “surprise guest,” in shades and a cap.
Related:
It's Back On: Trump-Musk Feud Reignites Over 'Big Beautiful Bill'

He jokingly hailed the USAID staffers as “secret agents of international development” in acknowledgment of the down-low nature of Monday’s unofficial gathering of the USAID community.

Bono spoke passionately as he recited a poem he had written to the agency and its gutting. He spoke of children dying of malnutrition, in a reference to people — millions, experts have said — who will die because of the U.S cuts to funding for health and other programs abroad. [Emphasis ours.]

If this is a matter of life and death, you, Mr. Hewson, do not show up at a send-off dressed like the Unabomber and turn it into a poetry slam. As much as this event is absurd on its face — essentially a Zoom call with a bunch of ostentatiously philanthropic celebs, two of whom held high office and one of whom probably holds the world record for least-liked album in everyone’s iTunes library — this is the most absurd detail of an already-absurd shindig: Bono, dressed like a hobo, imposing his poesy upon USAID employees worried about their future.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fan of USAID, but that’s a fate too dire to impose upon anyone in government not convicted of high crimes or misdemeanors. The AP was charitable and left out Bono’s verse, but The New York Times — bless their clueless souls — decided to end their coverage of the send-off with a sample:

“They called you crooks — when you were the best of us, there for the rest of us,” he said. “And don’t think any less of us, when politics makes a mess of us.”

“It’s not left-wing rhetoric to feed the hungry, heal the sick,” Bono added. “If this isn’t murder, I don’t know what is.”

Apparently, Bono couldn’t find anything to rhyme with “Colombian transgender opera” or “Serbian workplace DEI” — just two of the other multitudinous examples of waste I haven’t mentioned that led to USAID being rolled into the State Department and rebooted under the guise of an agency that actually does the job it’s supposed to instead of imposing wokeness upon target countries.

But, no — according to private-jet-owner Bono, not wanting your taxpayer dollars wasted by profligate do-gooder apparatchiks is tantamount to “murder.” To say this is thoroughly unserious is a relative kindness.

At the very least, you can’t say that USAID didn’t demonstrate, in its final act, precisely why it needed to go — and, indeed, why DOGE managed to make such quick work of it.

Two Chinese nationals arrested for spying on US Navy personnel and bases

Two People's Republic of China nationals arrested after allegedly recruiting service members and conducting clandestine operations for China's Ministry of State Security

Two Chinese nationals face serious charges after they allegedly acted as agents of the People's Republic of China’s government to collect intelligence about U.S. Navy service members and bases, while also recruiting other military members to carry out tasks for the country’s main foreign intelligence service, the Ministry of State Security (MSS).

The Department of Justice (DOJ) said Chinese national Yuance Chen, who resides in Happy Valley, Oregon, and Liren Lai, who traveled to Houston on a tourist visa in April 2025, were arrested on Friday. Both individuals face charges of overseeing and carrying out various clandestine intelligence tasks in the U.S. on behalf of the Ministry of State Security.

Along with assisting with the recruitment of potential MSS assets and gathering intel about service members and bases, the two men are accused of facilitating a "dead drop" payment of cash on behalf of the MSS.

The FBI arrested both men on Friday – Chen was arrested in Happy Valley while Lai was arrested in Houston – with help from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).

Chinese national Yuance Chen, second from left, is accused of acting as an agent of the Chinese government to collect intelligence about U.S. Navy service members and bases. Chen was photographed on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln in January 2025, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court. (US District Court for the Northern District of California)

"Today’s arrests reflect the FBI’s unwavering commitment to protecting our national security and safeguarding the integrity of our military," FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox News Digital. "The individuals charged were acting on behalf of a hostile foreign intelligence service — part of the Chinese Communist Party’s broader effort to infiltrate and undermine our institutions. Thanks to outstanding coordination with our partners, including NCIS, we disrupted those efforts and sent a clear message: the United States will not tolerate espionage on American soil. Our counterintelligence operations remain focused, vigilant, and relentless."

Citing a criminal complaint filed in the Northern District of California, the DOJ said the government of the PRC conducts intelligence activities against the U.S. using various means, including the MSS, which is involved with collecting intelligence on civilians. The MSS is also responsible for foreign intelligence, counterintelligence and political security.

The complaint alleges that Lai recruited Chen to work for the MSS in 2021.

The two men were in Guangzhou, China in January 2022, when they allegedly collaborated to facilitate a dead-drop payment of at least $10,000 on behalf of the MSS. The operation involved working with others in the U.S. to leave a backpack with the cash at a day-use locker in Livermore, California.

Lai and Chen continued working on behalf of the MSS after the cash drop payment and helped with identifying Navy individuals who might be willing to work on behalf of the MSS as well.

The DOJ said in 2022 and 2023, the two visited a U.S. Naval installation in Washington State as well as a Navy recruitment center in San Gabriel, California.

While at the recruitment center, Chen allegedly took photos of a bulletin board that contained the names, programs and hometowns of Navy recruits. The majority of those listed on the board noted that their hometown was "China," and the photos appeared to be transmitted to an MSS intelligence officer in China, the DOJ claimed.

FOREIGN NATIONALS CHARGED AMID TRUMP VISA CRACKDOWN FOR SCHEME TO SMUGGLE US MILITARY EQUIPMENT INTO CHINA

Chinese national Yuance Chen is accused of facilitating a "dead drop" payment of cash on behalf of the Chinese government. (US District Court for the Northern District of California)

The DOJ also alleged that the MSS gave Chen instructions on what to say to potential recruits when it came to payment that could be made by the MSS, preferred Naval job assignments for potential recruits and methods to minimize Chen’s risk of being exposed.

Chen ultimately began to communicate with a member of the Navy on social media, the DOJ alleges, and arranged for a tour of the USS Abraham Lincoln in San Diego with the employee. Chen also sent information about the employee to the MSS, the complaint said.

In April 2024 and March 2025, Chen traveled to Guangzhou where he met with MSS intelligence officers, the complaint alleged, to discuss pay for specific tasks.

CHINA TARGETS US MILITARY MEMBERS IN OVERSEAS SPY OPERATIONS, FORMER CIA STATION CHIEF WARNS

Lai also allegedly traveled to Houston in April 2025 and claimed the purpose of the visit was related to his business as an online retailer. He also claimed he would be staying in Houston for two weeks.

But on May 9, 2025, which was more than four weeks after he arrived in the U.S., Lai was seen traveling in a car with a companion from Houston to California, and back to Junction, Texas, on May 15.

Chen and Lai have been charged with operating in the U.S. as an agent of a foreign government without notifying the U.S. attorney general. If convicted, both men face a fine of up to $250,000 and up to 10 years behind bars.

"Adverse foreign intelligence services like the PRC’s Ministry of State Security dedicate years to recruiting individuals and cultivating them as intelligence assets to do their bidding within the United States," said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Eisenberg. "Under my leadership, the National Security Division will continue to defend our nation and neutralize our adversaries’ clandestine spy networks."

More Coming Out on the Idaho Shooter

The ambush and deaths of those Idaho firefighters, responding to the brush fire, were pretty heartbreaking to cover this past Sunday night. For those who live in the area, it had to be a frightening experience, for not only was there an apparent homicidal lunatic roaming their remote area, but it also looked as if there might be an uncontrolled fire rampaging through their neighborhoods thanks to him.

...Canfield Mountain, a popular hiking and biking area just outside Coeur d’Alene, became a war zone on Sunday. Its thick vegetation and complex trail system presented both tactical challenges and vulnerabilities for those responding to the emergency.

Even when the sheriff announced that they'd nailed who they determined to be the assailant, at the same time, he said officers had gone in to scoop up the body and what evidence they could find at the time because the fire was rapidly approaching the site. They didn't want to take a chance on losing it all in the flames.

A 20-year-old named Wess Roley was identified by Monday morning as the dead man accused in the attacks, but information was so sparse, and speculation was running rampant.

By Monday afternoon, however, we did have the names of the slain firefighters and another who'd been seriously injured.

Our prayers go out to their families in their horrific loss, and our fervent warm wishes for a quick and complete recovery to Mr Tysdal.

...The Kootenai County and Coeur d'Alene Fire Chiefs, Chris Way and Thomas Greif, identified the two slain firefighters in a press conference Monday.

Batallion Chief Frank Harwood, 42, of Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital Sunday.

Batallion Chief John Morrison, of Coeur d'Alene Fire, was also pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Coeur d'Alene Engineer David Tysdal also sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital Sunday. According to the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department, Tysdal has undergone mutliple surgeries and remains in critical condition.

Dribs and drabs of information about this 'Wess Roley' just dripped in so slowly, and I was hesitant to post anything that didn't come from the sheriff or authorities.

Eventually, though, interesting little bits that were real data started to emerge.

For one thing, while there had been unconfirmed and disputed rumors about his family having a restraining order against him, the sheriff did note it appeared as though Roley had been living in his truck. Additionally, there was some grain of truth in rumors of police run-ins. While they weren't of the violent nature speculation led one to believe, there were multiple instances of Roley having contact with police.

...Law enforcement in the county had five prior interactions with Roley, 20, but they were "minor in nature," according to Norris. They included welfare checks and a trespassing incident in which Roley was asked to leave and cooperated, he said.

Investigators have not yet done an inventory of Roley's vehicle, which "would be a good place to start" in determining a motive, Norris said. Responding deputies pushed the vehicle off the side of a mountain so that the suspect could not flee, and it currently remains in an embankment, Norris said.

Authorities are looking into Roley's social media presence, the sheriff said.

Roley is believed to have been born in California and has had prior residences in Arizona and Idaho, the sheriff said, noting it appeared he had been living out of his vehicle.

During yesterday's briefing, the Kootenai County Sheriff, Robert Norris, also mentioned that Roley had had words with the first responders on scene, arriving to put out the fire they now believe he started.

Today we find out that's when Roley shot these brave men - as they arrived and asked him to move his vehicle out of the way of the arriving firefighters. And they are now calling him a 'transient.'

A man who started a wildfire and then fatally shot two firefighters and wounded another in northern Idaho was a 20-year-old transient who attacked the first responders after they asked him to move his vehicle, a sheriff said Monday.

Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris offered new details about the Sunday confrontation at Canfield Mountain, just north of Coeur d’Alene, a popular recreation area. He said Wess Roley was living out of his vehicle, had once aspired to be a firefighter and had only a handful of minor contacts with area police.

They also determined Roley killed himself on that mountain. It wasn't law enforcement.

His local landlord said the young man had begun to 'act weirdly.'

...Roley lived with T.J. Franks Jr. for about six months in Sandpoint, Idaho, while working for a tree service, Franks said on Monday. Franks had cameras in his apartment that caught Roley throwing gang signs at them one day, which worried Franks to the point that he called police.

“I didn’t know what to really think about it,” Franks said. “I just called the cops and had them talk to him.”

The landlord also called Franks one morning because neighbors reported that Roley’s vehicle had been left running for about 12 hours. Franks said Roley was asleep in his room and said he forgot about the vehicle.

Franks said Roley “started acting a little weird” and at one point shaved his long hair off completely.

“We just kind of noticed him starting to decline or kind of go downhill,” he said.

What social media Sheriff Norris has released confirms Roley might have been sliding off the deep end.

And had been for a while.

Roley had been homeless for some time. One of his contacts with police had been for living in a local restaurant, and them being called to ask him to leave.

...His encounters with police mostly had to do with trespassing, Norris said. At one point, the suspect appeared to be living out of a restaurant, Norris said, and police had to ask him to leave. Law enforcement also performed at least one welfare check on the suspect.

He appeared to be living out of his car at the time of the shooting, said Norris, adding that it was full of materials. Investigators have not yet inventoried what was in the car which was pushed down an embankment to keep the suspect from fleeing.

..."We know he was a transient here, we know he lived here for the better part of 2024, but in terms of how he got here, why he chose this place, we don't know," Norris told reporters. "Maybe we'll find more once we do an inventory of the vehicle."

According to his grandfather, Roley always wanted to be a fireman.

You have to wonder how someone gets so horrifically lost that they go from wanting something so normal to being a brony and a soulless killer.

And these freakish monsters are happening all the time.
