Clare Bronfman, the Seagram’s heiress and sex-slave trafficker, was finally sentenced for her crimes against women and children on Wednesday. The New York Post reported:
Seagram’s liquor heiress and Nxivm cult member Clare Bronfman was sentenced Wednesday to six years and nine months in prison for her role in the upstate cult — a far harsher sentence than even prosecutors had asked for.
I highly recommend the HBO documentary The Vow, which gives an inside look into the absolute insanity that was NXIVM. Powerful and elite weirdos ran the sex cult. They claimed to be searching for meaning but were, in fact, desperately in need of psychotherapy. Both Allison Mack and Keith Raniere are still waiting for sentencing more than a year after their convictions.
Bronfman received a little more than six years in the slammer for her part in the trafficking cult that enslaved illegal immigrants and tortured women and minor teens. To me, it seems light, but the prosecution claims it was more than they even asked for and was the maximum allowable sentence for this type of crime. Apparently, Judge Nicholas Garaufis showed up to play hardball.
Bronfman, 41, faced 30 months behind bars under federal sentencing guidelines for charges of conspiracy to conceal and harbor an illegal alien for financial gain and fraudulent use of identification, although prosecutors had sought twice that, calling for five years.
But Garaufis ultimately delivered an even stiffer punishment — sending her to the slammer for 81 months and ordering her to pay a $500,000 fine.
The heiress’ eyes widened as she received the news, while at least one victim put her hands together in a motion of thanks to the judge. Bronfman was then escorted out of the courtroom by three US Marshals, past six victims who had earlier told the court she is a “dangerous megalomaniac” and a “predator.”
Five hundred thousand dollars isn’t that much to a billionaire so we can assume her eyes got wide at the thought of six years in the Big House without access to her posh lifestyle. Bronfman was responsible for bankrolling the cult which enabled it to carry out its gross deeds in the secret group called DOS where women including minor teens were starved, sexually abused, and even branded with Raniere’s and Mack’s initials. Bronfman kept slaves who she forced to do menial tasks like making hand-made food for her dog without pay.
Good for Judge Garaufis on his “no mercy” ruling! Here’s to hoping that the next two, Raniere and Mack, get the book thrown at them, too.
A laptop and several memory sticks used to program Philadelphia’s voting machines were stolen from a city warehouse in East Falls, officials confirmed Wednesday, setting off a scramble to investigate and to ensure the machines had not been compromised.
Though it remains unclear when the equipment was stolen, sources briefed on the investigation said the items vanished this week. The laptop belonged to an on-site employee for the company that supplies the machines. It and the USB drives were the only items believed to have been taken.
City officials vowed Wednesday that the theft would not disrupt voting on Nov. 3.
“We are confident,” said Nick Custodio, a deputy to Lisa Deeley, chair of the city commissioners, who oversee elections, “that this incident will not in any way compromise the integrity of the election.”
But behind the scenes, they fretted about how President Donald Trump and his allies might use the news to cast doubt on the integrity of the city’s elections in light of false claims and conspiracy theories he cited during Tuesday’s presidential debate.
The commissioners initially refused to confirm the theft or that an investigation had been opened. They only did so after The Inquirer informed them it would be reporting the incident based on sources who were not authorized to publicly discuss it.
A spokesperson for District Attorney Larry Krasner said Wednesday that the office was involved in an “active investigation.” Philadelphia police referred all questions to Mayor Jim Kenney’s office.
“Since being informed of the incident, I have immediately committed to making necessary police resources available to investigate this incident and find the perpetrators. I have also committed to the city commissioners additional resources to provide enhanced security at the warehouse going forward,” Kenney said in a statement. “This matter should not deter Philadelphians from voting, nor from having confidence in the security of this election.”
His rhetoric has alarmed experts and voting rights advocates, who say the president is undermining public confidence in the electoral system and inappropriately politicizing the democratic process.
Many details surrounding the stolen technology in Philadelphia remained unclear Wednesday, including how the equipment was taken, whether there are any suspects, and whether any machines had been compromised.
Custodio, the deputy to Deeley, said officials ensured the stolen laptop had been disabled remotely after the theft was discovered to prevent it from being used and added that it “did not have any of our election material on it.”
His statement did not address the stolen memory sticks, which are used to program the machines in advance of an election, including setting the design of the ballots.
The flash drives are encrypted to prevent tampering, and specifically matched with individual voting machines, said a spokesperson for Election Systems & Software, the voting machine vendor, adding: “Upon programming, these encryption keys ‘marry’ the USB with the machine, and if placed in another machine, it will cause an error and the machine will not work.”
Philadelphia has 3,750 of the ExpressVote XL touchscreen voting machines, and elections staff have begun programming them so they are ready to use on Nov. 3. The flash drives are inserted into the top of the machines; some of them are used to record the electronic votes used for unofficial results on election night, but it was unclear whether those stolen served that function.
Once a machine has been set up, it’s closed with a numbered seal. That means that any voting machines that are opened after being programmed should be identifiable because they would have broken seals. The commissioners have begun checking all the seals on the machines, which are numbered to prevent them from being opened and simply replaced, Custodio said, to ensure they have not been tampered with.
Sources familiar with the investigation said late Wednesday that during the review, officials found several machines had the wrong seal numbers, but Custodio said they believe the discrepancies were due to a logging error in recording the numbers and did not indicate that the machines had been compromised.
Those machines, he said, “will be thoroughly examined, wiped, and tested just to be sure.”
Philadelphia’s voting machines are fairly new, used for the first time last November. Gov. Tom Wolf ordered every voting machine in Pennsylvania, including those in Philadelphia, be replaced in advance of the 2020 election with more-secure machines that leave a paper trail that can be audited or even individually recounted by hand.
That means there’s a paper record of every vote cast, officials said. In the event of an audit or recount, it is the text on the ballots that is counted, not the bar codes or the electronic tallies.
“All voting systems have voter-verified paper ballots, which can be audited or recounted and are the official vote of record,” Wanda Murren, spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Department of State, said in a statement. “We are confident that Philadelphia, working with the department and our many partners, will be able to conduct a secure and fair election for its voters on Nov. 3.”
The discovery of the theft came during a particularly bad week for Philadelphia’s elections officials.
On Tuesday, the city opened its first-ever satellite elections offices to allow voters to cast mail ballots in person — and the statewide voter database went down moments after the celebratory news conference. That afternoon, Trump falsely accused Philadelphia of blocking his poll watchers from the offices, and again put a target on the city by repeating the claims during the presidential debate.
A lawyer for the campaign sent a letter to the commissioners late Tuesday threatening legal action if they are not allowed to observe the elections offices.
City officials are urging anyone with information on the stolen laptop and voting machine memory sticks to contact the Philadelphia police at 215-686-TIPS.

The report says unspecified records show that Biden “has sent funds to non-resident alien women in the United States who are citizens of Russia and Ukraine and who have subsequently wired funds they have received from Hunter Biden to individuals located in Russia and Ukraine.”
“The records also note that some of these transactions are linked to what ‘appears to be an Eastern European prostitution or human trafficking ring,’” the report says.
The allegations are contained in a footnote to a section of the report that details potential “criminal concerns and extortion threats” involving the son of former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and other members of the Biden family.

Here’s the transcript. This is after both candidates have answered the first question without interrupting each other. Now it is Trump’s turn for a rebuttal and this is exactly how it happened:

JOE BIDEN INTERRUPTION #1: He’s elected to the next election.
DONALD TRUMP: During that period of time, during that period of time, we have an opening. I’m not elected for three years. I’m elected for four years and a hundred million people–
JOE BIDEN INTERRUPTION #2: Merrick Garland started–
DONALD TRUMP: Joe, the hundred million people is totally wrong. I don’t know where you got that number. The bigger problem that you have is that you’re going to extinguish 180 million people with their private health care, that–

And this is where — if you can believe it! — the moderator, Chris Wallace, jumped in to interrupt the president…
Look closely at what Wallace does… Trump is making a point about how Democrats want to take away everyone’s private insurance, and Wallace not only jumps in to shut the president up, he then hands the discussion over to Biden.
I’m deliberately repeating the last line in the excerpt above so you can see that this is exactly how the debate flowed:
DONALD TRUMP: Well, you’re certainly going to socialist. You’re going to socialist medicine-
CHRIS WALLACE INTERRUPTION #1: Gentlemen, we’re now into open discussion.
JOE BIDEN: Open discussion.
CHRIS WALLACE: Open discussion, yes, I agree. Go ahead, Vice President.
JOE BIDEN: Number one, he knows what I proposed. What I proposed is that we expand Obamacare and we increase it. We do not wipe any. And one of the big debates we had with 23 of my colleagues trying to win the nomination that I won, were saying that Biden wanted to allow people to have private insurance still. They can. They do. They will under my proposal.
DONALD TRUMP: That’s not what you’ve said and it’s not what your party is saying.
At this point — and keep in mind this is the open discussion part of the debate — after Biden had his say, Trump jumped in and Biden became outright obnoxious and started interrupting Trump constantly… Again, I am not breaking up the transcript…
DONALD TRUMP: That’s not what you’ve said, and it’s not what your party is saying.
JOE BIDEN INTERRUPTION #4: That is simply a lie.
DONALD TRUMP: Your party doesn’t say it. Your party wants to go socialist medicine and socialist healthcare.

And then, at this point, Trump again sat back and allowed Biden to have his say… And after Trump allows Biden to have his say, as soon as Trump starts to make his own point, Biden starts interrupting again:
JOE BIDEN: The platform of the Democratic Party is what I, in fact, approved of, what I approved of. Now, here’s the deal. The deal is that it’s going to wipe out pre-existing conditions. And, by the way, the 200,000 people that have died on his watch, how many of those have survived? Well, there’s seven million people that contracted COVID. What does it mean for them going forward if you strike down the Affordable Care Act?
DONALD TRUMP: Joe, you’ve had 308,000 military people dying because you couldn’t provide them proper healthcare in the military. So don’t tell me about this.
JOE BIDEN INTERRUPTION #7: I’m happy to talk about this.
At this point, Trump gets double teamed by both Biden and Wallace.
Trump begins speaking and on top of Biden interrupting, Wallace again starts badgering and interrupting the president to shut down a valid line of attack:
JOE BIDEN: I’m happy to talk about this.
DONALD TRUMP: And if you were here–
JOE BIDEN INTERRUPTION #8: [indecipherable]
DONALD TRUMP: …it wouldn’t be 200, it would be two million people, because you were very late on the draw–

DONALD TRUMP: You didn’t want me to ban China, which was heavily infected. You didn’t want me to ban Europe–
CHRIS WALLACE INTERRUPTION #2: All right, gentlemen, Mr. President.

CHRIS WALLACE INTERRUPTION #3: Mr. President, Mr. President, Mr. President.
And after all that, Wallace scolded Trump for interrupting about 15 minutes later:
CHRIS WALLACE: Well, frankly, you’ve been doing more interrupting than he has.
DONALD TRUMP: Well, that’s alright, but he does plenty.
CHRIS WALLACE: Well, sir, less than-
DONALD TRUMP: He does plenty.
CHRIS WALLACE: No, less than you have.
So it was not only Biden who set the tone that it was okay to interrupt and heckle, it was also Wallace who interrupted Trump on three occasions, just as he was making valid points about the Democrat Party’s affection for stripping all of us of our private health insurance, the VA scandal, and how Biden’s affection for open borders and his son Hunter’s sponsors in China would have made the coronavirus exponentially worse.
Once that tone was set, Trump simply chose to play along.
What’s more, as I pointed out in my earlier review of the debate (which I believe Trump won), interrupting, heckling, and yelling that his opponent is lying is an old Biden trick. He did it to Paul Ryan in 2012 during their vice presidential debate.
Anyone who watches the first ten minutes of last night’s debate, and again, it’s all right here, will see that Trump’s tone was respectful and patient right up until Biden and Wallace decided to interrupt and silence the president.
Well, one thing is clear again: ex-FBI Director James Comey has no idea what was going on in his department during the entirety of the counterintelligence probe into Russian collusion during the 2016 election. He knew it was going on but can’t remember anything about it. his testimony thus far can be summed up in three words.
I. Know.
Nothing.
Former investigative reporter for CBS News Sharyl Attkisson aptly noted that there can only be two conclusions to this circus act, which is that our intelligence community has undergone a horrific transformation in which the most incompetent members have risen to the top, true Keystone Cops stuff, or that Comey and the FBI oversaw a politically motivated witch hunt. It’s one or the other.
James Comey had no opening statement. He wanted to get to the committee members questions, but not before Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) entered a letter from the DOJ Office of Intelligence attorney who compiled the FISA warrant against Carter Page, a former Trump campaign official, which said that knowing what they know now this person would not have signed off on this fiasco, repeating what former acting Attorney General Sally Yates said.
Page was targeted based on the shoddy and unverified Steele Dossier (aka Trump Dossier), which started this whole investigation. Comey denies this, though he noted that the dossier was an important, small part of this whole investigation.
Michael Flynn and Carter Page are two victims of this sham investigation. Flynn is still in legal purgatory. Page was never charged with any of the bogus Russia allegations that led to the Obama DOJ issuing a spy warrant against him. And here we have James Comey sitting here today pretty much saying he had no clue what was going on
“What astounds me the most, is that the director of the FBI is completely clueless about any of the information obtained by his agency,” Graham said.
Yeah, sort of an understatement as this hearing continues.
To make things more embarrassing, when asked 'when and if' the Trump dossier was verified, Comey prevaricated again. Again, it seems like this document was probably never verified, despite being cited as credible evidence in the Carter FISA warrant. The errors in it are glaring, so bad that a simple Google search can fact-check them. And now, the sub-source for the dossier is now exposed as a Russian spy and a national security threat at the time this document was compiled by Christopher Steele, the ex-MI6 spook who the Clinton campaign and the Democrats hired to get dirt on Trump.
This was a piece of political opposition research that was weaponized by the FBI to spy on the Trump campaign and to go after its members. So, I can see why Comey took the 'aloof in the clouds' approach.
