Lindsay Clancy reporter sparks blacklash for grinning at camera, forcing Vanity Fair to pull her credentials

PLYMOUTH, Mass. – A reporter in a green dress has sparked backlash for grinning and winking at the camera during the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy — and she has been bounced from her gig with “Vanity Fair.”

A live CourtTV camera panned along a row of journalists in the courtroom gallery Monday when it caught Brittany Romano apparently hamming it up with a smile and a wink – as other reporters looked stone-faced.

The trial is over whether Clancy should be convicted of murder for strangling her three children to death or whether should be found not guilty by reason of insanity.

The case has been so horrifying that at least one prospective juror fled the courtroom in tears before the trial even started.

Romano was later asked about her odd reaction and claimed she was in court because she “grew up” with Clancy. She also said she flashed her pearly whites during the trial about three murdered children because her dad told her she looked sad on live TV, according to TMZ.

Lindsay Clancy watches as the jury enters the courtroom during her murder trial at Plymouth Superior Court, Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, in Plymouth, Mass.

But her caught-on-camera antics cost her her credentials with Vanity Fair, which announced Tuesday it was parting ways with her.

“We were interested in the prospect of a personal essay by Brittany Romano about her experience growing up with Lindsay Clancy,” Vanity Fair said in a statement. “Yesterday, after clear conflicts with our editorial standards and processes, we informed Romano that we were not moving forward with her essay and informed the court that she is no longer credentialed by Vanity Fair.”

Here’s the latest on Lindsay Clancy’s trial for allegedly murdering her three children:

Romano was not seen inside court Tuesday, though her name was still on a list outside the courtroom, which specified she was reporting for New York Magazine and Vanity Fair.

The reporter posted to Instagram stories Tuesday about the online backlash she has received.

“All for smiling at a camera?! Love it! Tysm for boosting my analytics Xoxoxoxo,” Romano wrote in one story.

Vanity Fair cut ties with reporter Brittany Romano after she was caught smiling and winking during the Lindsay Clancy triple-murder trial.

In another, she said “these trolls have been absolutely vile,” telling her to kill herself and attacking her personally.

The trial for the 36-year-old Duxbury mom is winding down this week, with witness testimony potentially ending later Tuesday.

Clancy wants a jury to find her not guilty by reason of insanity claiming she was experiencing severe postpartum psychosis and hearing voices when she carried out the slayings and tried to kill herself.
