Embarrassing Patty Murray Flub on Trump Judicial Appointee Leads to 'Greatest Community Note Ever'

There is not a person on this planet who has not gotten someone's name wrong at some point in their lives. I know it's certainly happened to me. In fact, I've been on the receiving end of being called by the wrong name a few times, because apparently the name Stacey sounds a lot like "Stephanie" and "Daisy," I guess.

But when it comes from one of our supposed intellectual betters on the left who just so happens to be in the middle of a "you better take me seriously!" righteous rant, it's hilarious to watch unfold.

Such was the case with Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), who is not a fan of former Ohio Solicitor General Benjamin Flowers, a Trump appointee who on Tuesday was confirmed in a 49-46 Senate vote to a "lifetime seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit." Flowers once clerked for the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and also "argued three cases before" the SCOTUS, "including the successful challenge to OSHA’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate."

Flowers has also defended Ohio's pro-life laws, which doesn't sit well with the pro-abortion Murray, who took to X to complain in a since-deleted tweet that "Brandon Flowers" was an "anti-abortion extremist" who "argued to revive an abortion ban that would go into effect before most women even KNOW they're pregnant."

Except "Brandon Flowers" is the lead singer of a band called "The Killers." X users, including the Community Notes function, had a field day in response:

But on a more serious note, there was this:

And also this, from Ethics and Public Policy Center's Ed Whelan:

So stupid. As state solicitor general, Benjamin (not Brandon) Flowers defended Ohio's heartbeat law.

This pro-abortion talking point--"before they even know they're pregnant"--is even more inane, but I guess it must poll well. No one gets an abortion before she knows she's pregnant. All sorts of criminal laws are in effect before you're tempted to violate them. When states adopted statutes to replace the common-law prohibition on abortion, those statutes typically operated from conception.

Like Mr. Wold said, "Can't wait to see him get to work." I mean, the guy was described by Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) as someone who "checks virtually every box the MAGA right expects from its judges." How much better can Flowers (Benjamin, that is) actually get?
