Belgium didn't just celebrate its Monday evening 4-1 World Cup victory over the United States — it took a victory lap on social media, trolling Team USA with a mocking post and even breaking out the so-called "Trump dance."
The celebration came after days of controversy surrounding the red card issued to U.S. Men's National Team player Folarin Balogun, which initially meant he wouldn't get to play in the critical World Cup game against Belgium. Then, FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) overturned the suspension, under a decision by their disciplinary committee, allowing Balogun to play in the game.
That caused further controversy, with the left attacking President Donald Trump for speaking to the FIFA President Gianni Infantino about a review. But as Infantino explained, there wasn't any pressure, and it wasn't his decision, but the committee's. But that didn't stop some on the left who were rooting against the team simply because of Trump's call. And that didn't stop some like the Belgium team from having a cow.
Belgium, which likely thought they'd have a better chance with Balogun out, suddenly realized they now had to deal with him. They tried to challenge the decision, but their challenge was tossed essentially for lack of standing since they weren't part of the U.S.-Bosnia game in which the foul was called. They still said they might try to challenge the game if Balogun played.
Now, I don't know whether any of that threw the U.S. team off, but they did not have a good game and felt out of it from the start. Belgium capitalized on mistakes, and the U.S. didn't seem to be able to get a good run going. As the head coach, Mauricio Pochettino noted, it just wasn't their day. They ended up losing, 4-1 to Belgium.

After All the Controversy, the USMNT World Cup Game With Belgium Was a Tough One
As indicated, Belgium did not have a very sportsmanlike response at the end of the game.
“Overturn this,” the Red Devils’ official X account posted with a photo of star Romelu Lukaku during the game against the U.S. in Seattle.
Not very classy.
They also tried to do a Trump dance right after they scored their fourth goal, but they didn't quite get it right. While they moved their arms, they didn't really move their bodies right.
As some reminded them, we helped save their bacon from the Nazis in World War II, and maybe they owed us just a little gratitude.
Not to mention, the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) defense we have also provided for so long.

Some reminded them that the U.S. had sown a pretty powerful legacy, and trash-talked right back at them.
The Belgium team doesn't help itself with that kind of display.
Fortunately, the European fans like the Freddy, the Tartan Army, and the Norwegian rower have had a lot more grace than the Belgian team is showing there, and they've brought a lot of fun off the World Cup with them, so this can't change that fact.
