Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) is threatening legal action against another candidate in this fall’s U.S. Senate race who has the same name.
“Sen. Dan Sullivan is threatening legal action against the other Dan Sullivan running for Senate, accusing him of being a plant for Schumer and Mary Peltola,” NOTUS reporter Igor Bobic said.
“Sen. Sullivan says the other Sullivan copied his campaign logo,” Bobic added.
Townhall has more:
Sen. Sullivan believes that the individual recruited by Peltola had infringed on his trademarked campaign logo. The alternative Sullivan is likely using the same campaign slogan that Sen. Sullivan had adopted during his first run for the U.S. Senate: “Sullivan for Senate.” The campaign logo adopted by candidate Sullivan is eerily similar to Sen. Sullivan’s, with both displaying “Sullivan U.S. Senate” on a field of blue and containing gold stars.
Candidate Sullivan’s campaign website continues to be devoid of any meaningful information, with only a short biography and a press release available on the website. As reported earlier by Townhall, a PDF version of the press release reveals that the author is a political strategist who is a notable supporter of Democrat front-runner Peltola.
“A very animated Sen. Sullivan spoke at the end of the GOP lunch & accused the other Dan Sullivan of copying his campaign logo. Sen. Sullivan said the press release for Other Dan had metadata from longtime Dem operative,” Punchbowl News senior congressional reporter Andrew Desiderio said.
“Many R’s in room offered to help financially/otherwise as Sen. Sullivan now pursues litigation over this + how his name will appear on the ballot. Some asked more specific Q’s like whether Schumer was aware/blessed the effort,” he added.
The other Dan Sullivan filed to run against Sen. Dan Sullivan last week.
The New York Times shared further:
In Alaska this election season, the biggest supporters of Dan Sullivan could be the biggest antagonists of Dan Sullivan.
The field of contenders challenging Senator Dan S. Sullivan, a Republican who is up for re-election, has grown in recent days with a rather befuddling addition: Dan J. Sullivan, a former educator of no known relation, has entered the race.
His arrival could cause a headache for Senator Sullivan, who is working to fend off a challenge from former Representative Mary Peltola, a well-funded and independent-minded Democrat who says she is running on “fish, family and freedom.”
Dan J. Sullivan’s campaign announcement says he is a former elementary-school teacher and bartender from Petersburg, Alaska, a small town about 120 miles southeast of Juneau known locally for its Scandinavian spring festival. The announcement lays out no policies and does not describe his party affiliation.
The campaign arm of Senate Republicans, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, suggested that Dan J. Sullivan was a plant by Democrats intended to confuse voters and siphon support from Senator Sullivan, a former Marine who worked in the State Department under President George W. Bush.
If some voters mistakenly vote for Dan J. Sullivan thinking they’re voting for Senator Sullivan, it could make the difference in a tight race, political observers said.
But Alaskans in both parties were skeptical it was a ploy. Alaska simply has a lot of Dan Sullivans, they said.
