As if New York City didn’t have enough trouble with socialists like Mayor Zohran Mamdani taking over, The City is being rocked Wednesday by allegations of deep-seated corruption involving former Mayor Eric Adams’ former top adviser, Frank Carone, and the NYPD’s one-time top uniformed officer, Jeffrey Maddrey.
Maddrey is under suspicion for taking bribes:
New York Police Department investigators and F.B.I. agents searched the homes of current and former high-ranking Police Department officials on Wednesday while pursuing corruption inquiries related to Jeffrey Maddrey, once the force’s top uniformed officer.
One of the inquiries, being conducted by the police investigators and Manhattan federal prosecutors, was focused at least in part on bribery accusations and stemmed from earlier scrutiny of Mr. Maddrey, the chief of department under former Mayor Eric Adams, according to three people with knowledge of the matter.
Among those targeted in that investigation was Tarik Sheppard, a former deputy commissioner, the people said.
In another inquiry, F.B.I. agents on Wednesday searched the home of Mr. Maddrey for at least the second time in two years, two of the people said.
Maddrey’s got some serious skeletons in his closet: he was forced to resign from the department in 2024 after he was accused of forcing a staffer to perform “intimate favors” in exchange for overtime.
Commissioner Jessica Tisch, who was appointed by Adams, has vowed to run a clean department:
🚨🚨BREAKING: NYPD Internal Affairs and the FBI are serving search warrants this morning as part of a criminal corruption probe into current and former members of the NYPD, according to Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
I am hearing this involves some high-level names from an NYPD source.
More as we get it.

Carone, meanwhile, was arrested Wednesday as he stands accused of illegally profiting off a homeless shelter scheme:
Carone had his home searched by the feds in the early morning operation and was arrested in an alleged bribery scheme, according to police sources.
Carrone’s brother, Anthony Carrone, was also busted in the raids after Frank — while serving as Adams’ chief of staff — allegedly received a bribe connected to a homeless shelter contract with a hotel that he funneled through his brother, according to sources.
Yan Po Zhu, the owner of a Queens hotel, and Zhu’s employee Crystal Chen were also cuffed in the alleged bribery scheme, law enforcement sources said.
The whole thing feels like a mob movie:
BREAKING: Frank Carone, former chief of staff to ex-NYC Mayor Eric Adams, his brother, and two others were arrested in a federal bribery probe.
The indictment remains sealed, while FBI agents were also seen at the home of former NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey as investigators examine alleged corruption involving promotions and assignments within the department.
Although the investigations of Carone and Maddrey are said to be unrelated, both probes involve top former Adams administration officials. Adams himself was charged with corruption in 2024, but the case was dropped by the DOJ when Trump returned to office, partly because the then-mayor was helping with the president’s efforts to combat illegal immigration.
There’s plenty of rotting going on in the Big Apple, evidently. Adams, who’d seen his reputation improve because he looked good compared to the communist Mamdani, is now once again at the center of a corruption story.
Screenwriters don’t need to look far for movie ideas — the NYPD is providing them for free.
