‘Our response to Israel’s attack on our infrastructure employed FRACTION of our power,’ Abbas Araghchi said on social media.

“Our response to Israel’s attack on our infrastructure employed FRACTION of our power,” Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi wrote in a post on X. “The ONLY reason for restraint was respect for requested de-escalation.”
There would be “ZERO restraint if our infrastructures are struck again,” he added. “Any end to this war must address damage to our civilian sites.”
It comes after Trump pledged on Wednesday night that Israel would make no more attacks on Iran’s South Pars gas field, but he warned that if Iran attacked Qatar again, the U.S. military would retaliate and “massively blow up the entirety” of the field.
Iran hit a Saudi refinery on the Red Sea and set Qatari liquefied natural gas facilities and two Kuwaiti oil refineries ablaze on Thursday.
The president added in his post that the United States “knew nothing” about the Israeli strike on the Pars field and stressed that Qatar “was in no way, shape, or form, involved” in Israel’s attacks on Iran’s gas field. “Unfortunately, Iran did not know this” and “unjustifiably and unfairly” attacked Qatar, he added.
“I do not want to authorize this level of violence and destruction because of the long term implications that it will have on the future of Iran,” Trump warned, adding that he would “not hesitate to do so” if Qatar’s natural gas sites were attacked by Tehran again.
Asked on Thursday if he’d spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the attack, the president replied, “Yeah, I did, I did. I told him, ‘Don’t do that.’” He made the comment at the White House alongside Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
“And he won’t do that,” Trump said. He continued, “We’re independent. We get along great. It’s coordinated. But, on occasion, he’ll do something, and if I don’t like it, and so we’re not doing that anymore.”
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said through state-run media outlet Tasnim News that it launched reprisal strikes against facilities that it claimed are associated with the United States in response to attacks on its facilities.
“Following the enemy’s aggression against energy infrastructures, the situation has effectively entered a new phase of warfare. The necessity to defend Iran’s infrastructure has compelled the IRGC to target energy facilities linked to the United States and American stakeholders,” the IRGC said in the statement.
Last week, the U.S. military conducted strikes on Iran’s Kharg Island, a critical link in the exportation of a significant amount of the country’s oil. Trump and other officials stated the United States “totally obliterated every MILITARY target” on Kharg and warned that oil infrastructure could be next if Iran continues to block oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
The price for a barrel of West Texas Intermediate, or WTI, crude oil increased to $99 as the price for Brent crude increased to $111 per barrel on Thursday. Data from the American Automotive Association show that the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline increased 4 cents to $3.84 on Thursday, up from $2.91 a month ago.
