Is there something more to her death?
An Israeli producer was found dead in a Greek hotel as she was in the country filming the Israeli TV series Tehran.
Producer Dana Eden was found dead at the Athens hotel in Greece in what authorities are calling a suspected suicide.
Here’s a photo of Eden before her death:
The Times of Israel was the first to report on the producer’s death:
Dana Eden, 52, a producer and creator of the Israeli drama series “Tehran,” died suddenly in Athens on Sunday, during filming of the show’s fourth season in Greece, Kan, the Israeli public broadcaster, said.
According to Hebrew media, Eden was found lifeless in an Athens hotel on Sunday by her brother, who began searching for her after she failed to respond to messages.
Local police issued an autopsy order to determine the cause of death and began collecting security camera footage and testimony from hotel staff. Reuters, quoting police officials, said the police were investigating the death as suicide, based on evidence and testimonies, and that Greek investigators found pills at the scene. It also reported, however, that a coroner found bruises on Eden’s neck.
The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation published a statement mourning Eden’s passing.
“We mourn the passing of our colleague and partner in a long line of productions, series, and programs at the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation – Dana Eden,” said the statement. “Dana was among the senior figures in Israel’s television industry and played a central role in creating and leading some of the corporation’s most prominent and influential productions. Her professional and personal legacy will continue to shape Israeli television for many years to come.”
Foul play is currently being ruled out:
The Greek City Times reported more closely on the investigation behind Eden’s death and dispelled rumors attempting to connect her death to Iran’s regime:
Greek police officials are treating the death as a suspected suicide based on initial evidence, including pills found at the scene, witness testimonies, and no signs of foul play. An autopsy has been ordered to confirm the cause of death. Eden’s brother discovered her body after she failed to respond to repeated attempts to contact her.
Eden, a prominent figure in Israeli television, co-created Tehran—an Emmy-winning series about a Mossad agent infiltrating Iran—with Shula Spiegel. The show, which streams on Apple TV+, has gained international acclaim for its tense spy narrative.
Production company statements have dismissed circulating rumors on social media suggesting criminal or politically motivated involvement (e.g., related to the show’s sensitive themes involving Iran), calling them unfounded. Israeli public broadcaster Kan expressed deep mourning for Eden, describing her as a valued colleague and partner across many projects.
Eden’s death comes as tensions between Israel and Iran have gotten very volatile over the last month, which led fans of Eden to initially believe Iran had a role in her death.
