Democrats in the US Senate, led by the detestable Chuck Schumer, are planning to block the DHS funding bill that passed the House last week, all because of ICE funding.
Senate Democrats are openly saying that they will not support the bill because of ICE, but there’s one big fat problem with this.

ICE got billions of $ in funding via the One Big Beautiful Bill, which is a separate from DHS appropriations money. As Dems flirt with idea of partial gov shutdown if DHS funding bill doesn’t include changes they want (defund, reform, etc), it would be TSA agents & FEMA who are hurt with a lapse in DHS funding more than ICE.One of the top Dem. House appropriators, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) is aware of that risk, saying in a statement:
“The Homeland Security funding bill is more than just ICE. If we allow a lapse in funding, TSA agents will be forced to work without pay, FEMA assistance could be delayed, and the U.S. Coast Guard will be adversely affected, all while ICE continues functioning without any change in their operations due to $75 billion from the One Big Beautiful Bill.”
Or as Matt Whitlock put it on X yesterday, “Schumer has the votes to block funding for TSA and FEMA – but there’s no ICE funding to block. Once again, Schumer is leading his members over a cliff without a plan for success or exit strategy.”
