Israel’s military is stepping up readiness in the face of a potential unexpected conflict, the country’s top general said on Monday, signaling increased alertness amid ongoing regional tensions.
Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, visited the headquarters of the Home Front Command on Monday alongside its commander, Major General Shai Kalper, and other senior officers. During the visit, he stressed that the IDF and civilian defense systems are preparing for the possibility of a sudden outbreak of war.
Zamir said the military is already on “high alert” and that lessons learned from recent conflicts, including “Operation Rising Lion,” have been absorbed into current defense planning. He stated that these lessons have been internalized and that the IDF is gearing up for scenarios that could include a sudden attack by a hostile power.
“The combination of the Home Front Command’s capabilities together with a close partnership with local authorities and emergency organizations strengthens national resilience and ensures a response to every challenge,” Zamir said, emphasizing the role of civil defense alongside military preparedness.
Zamir also warned that while Israel is prepared to defend itself, the IDF maintains the readiness to employ “unprecedentedly powerful offensive capability” against any entity that attempts to harm the state.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered similar remarks on the same day in the Knesset, stating that if Israel were attacked, it would respond with force of a kind the adversary “has not seen before.”
The chief’s comments underline Israeli military leadership’s focus on readiness across all fronts and scenarios, with particular attention to sudden or unexpected developments that could escalate into broader conflict.
