The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) got a ton of flak when it was revealed that they wildly inflated the value of one of their proposed cuts due to a math error. But on Tuesday, one DOGE critic showed she was not immune to mathematical gaffes herself.
In a hearing of a House Oversight subcommittee on DOGE, Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) displayed a placard which purported to show the results of a recent Quinnipiac poll showing a majority of Americans disapproved of DOGE and the man tasked with overseeing it, Elon Musk.

But as you can see above, the total of the three categories in the poll added up to 110 percent. Rep. Brian Jack (R-GA) was quick to spot the error.
“The poll behind you, behind our ranking member, it adds up to 110 percent,” Jack said. “Just wanted to clarify, is it meant to add up to 110 percent or is that an error?”
Stansbury was caught flat-footed.
“This is from a Quinnipiac poll that was held two weeks ago, and this is the data that was provided,” Stansbury said. “There’s a wealth of information, including information about Donald Trump’s falling poll numbers. So you should take a look.”
The error came in the “disapprove” category — as 57 percent of respondents gave a thumbs-down to the work of Musk and DOGE, not 67 percent as Stansbury’s placard indicated.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) — who, earlier in the hearing, got into a heated battle with Stansbury — wasted no time calling out the New Mexico Democrat’s mistake.
“The gentleman yields, and it still adds up to 110 percent!” Greene said. “That’s a fake poll right there!”
