The words "FEED ME" are seen painted in red on the National Holocaust Monument in Ottawa on June 9, 2025.
The City of Ottawa has fired one of its employees who stands accused of spreading red paint on the National Holocaust Monument in Ottawa.
A 46-year-old Ottawa man has been charged in connection with the incident, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) said in a June 27 press release.
The man has been charged with mischief to a war memorial, mischief exceeding $5,000, and harassment by threatening conduct.
Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe said the accused was a city employee who was on leave at the time of the incident. He is no longer employed by the city, Sutcliffe said in a June 29 social media post.
“While it’s encouraging to see that the police investigation into the incident at the National Holocaust Monument has progressed, I’m very disturbed to learn that the person charged is a city employee who was on leave,” Sutcliffe said in a separate post on June 28. “As a community and as an employer, the actions at the Monument do not represent our values.”
The city refused to provide the former employee’s name, saying it can’t provide further details as the issue is before the courts.
“The City can confirm that the individual implicated in this act was on leave at the time of the incident and is no longer employed by the City,” Stuart Huxley, interim city solicitor, told The Epoch Times in a statement.
“As the matter is the subject of a police investigation and is before the courts, the City will provide no further comment.”
The monument, which sits on Wellington Street in the nation’s capital, was defaced during the night of June 8 to 9. Red paint was thrown on the concrete structure with the words “Feed me” written in red as well.
An arrest was made after the OPS’s Hate and Bias Crime Unit launched an investigation and sought help from the public.
Deborah Lyons, Ottawa’s special envoy for combatting anti-Semitism, thanked police for their swift investigation into the matter. She also thanked Sutcliffe for his transparency and solidarity with the Jewish community.
“Antisemitism has no home here,” she said in a June 30 social media post.
The vandalism took place amid an increase in acts of anti-Semitism taking place in Canada and elsewhere since the terrorist group Hamas launched raids inside Israel in October 2023, which were followed by Israeli military action that continues to this day.
The words “Feed me” written on the memorial were painted at a time when entities like the United Nations were accusing Israel of limiting aid delivery in the Gaza Strip. Israel has been trying to control aid distribution, saying it wants to prevent Hamas from hijacking the shipments.
The vandalism of the memorial was condemned by politicians of all stripes in Ottawa. Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was “appalled” by the act, while Tory Leader Pierre Poilievre said the responsible “thugs” should be “locked up.”
Former Auburn swimmer Kirsty Coventry took questions from reporters after being named IOC president last week.
The new president of the International Olympic Committee has held her seat for just one week and is already making monumental moves.
As the head of the IOC, Kirsty Coventry wields tremendous power not only in the business world but in setting the tone worldwide for standards in sports.
'We have to protect the female category, first and foremost.'
After assuming office on June 23, the former Zimbabwean swimmer took questions in a nearly hour-long press conference, where she made one thing clear: The Olympic Committee is moving away from placating transgender athletes.
About halfway through the event, Coventry, Africa's most decorated Olympian, answered questions about how female events will look at the Olympics moving forward.
The 2024 Paris games were cloaked in shame after male Algerian athlete Imane Khelif competed and won gold in women's boxing, causing massive public outrage. Khelif has been proven to be a man four times over but was still allowed to compete after the IOC ended gender testing in 1999, punting the responsibility to individual sports bodies.
That status quo may be changing.
"On the protection of the female category, it was very clear from the members that we have to protect the female category, first and foremost," Coventry told a journalist. "We have to do that to ensure fairness. But we need to do that with a scientific approach and with the inclusion of the international federations who have already done a lot of work in this area."
The new IOC president said that she will quickly work to "bring in the experts" and international federations to find "cohesion on this specific topic."
Coventry was faced with a similar question later on in the presser, with a reporter asking if cheek swabbing to determine sex was the likely scenario in order to protect women's sports.
The executive said the IOC would look at the work that has been done by organizations like World Athletics and come up with an answer through "scientific approaches."
The same reporter then asked specifically about how much Khelif's case had affected the decision and if it had a heavy influence on Olympic Committee members.
Coventry said that the Olympic Committee "unanimously" felt it was time to find a consensus on how to protect women's sports. She then noted that she had heard from many members about how the issue has played out in their own countries. This included members taking issue not only from a competitive standpoint but also a cultural one, Coventry explained.
PARIS, FRANCE - AUGUST 10: Yu Ting Lin of Team Chinese Taipei celebrates a victory against Julia Szeremeta of Team Poland (not pictured) after the Boxing Women's 57kg Final match on day fifteen of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 at Roland Garros on August 10, 2024, in Paris, France.
"I'm very encouraged to see Coventry stating that she will protect the female category," Jennifer Sey, a former U.S. national gymnastics champion, told Blaze News. "I'd only add that there really is no nuance. And there can be no compromise on this. It's very simple. You must [have] XX [chromosomes] to compete in the women's category. Sex testing — one time! — will verify this."
While the new IOC president did fall short of plainly stating men should not be in women's sports, if any policy similar to that of otherathletic institutions is implemented, it should stop athletes like Khelif from competing against women.
Still, with Khelif daring President Trump in March to stop him from competing at the 2028 games in Los Angeles and attempting to compete against women as recently as May, the boxer may end up going down swinging, along with many other hostile male athletes.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia will stay in jail for now over concerns that he could be deported if he’s released to await his trial on human smuggling charges, a federal judge in Tennessee ruled Monday.
Abrego Garcia’s attorneys had asked the judge to delay his release because of what they described as “contradictory statements” by President Donald Trump’s administration over what would happen to the Salvadoran national. The lawyers wrote in a brief to the court that “we cannot put any faith in any representation made on this issue” by the Justice Department, adding that the “irony of this request is not lost on anyone.”
The Justice Department last Thursday told a judge that they will begin deportation proceedings after a federal judge ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia to be released.
Last Wednesday, US District Judge Waverly Crenshaw, an Obama appointee, said Abrego Garcia should not be detained as he awaits a trial on federal child-trafficking charges.
Judge Crenshaw is the second judge to order Abrego Garcia released pending trial. Last Sunday federal magistrate judge Barbara Holmes ruled MS-13 gang member and wife beater Kilmar Abrego Garcia should not be detained on his criminal charges.
Abrego Garcia was not released from prison because he was detained by ICE.
The DOJ previously told the Court that Abrego Garcia will be deported to a ‘third country’ that is not El Salvador after he is released from a Tennessee jail.
Government prosecutors did not give a timeline for the removal process but said it was not imminent.
Earlier this month Kilmar Abrego Garcia pleaded not guilty to human trafficking charges as and fought for his release pending trial.
Abrego Garcia appeared in a Nashville court clad in a red jumpsuit.
A federal grand jury in Tennessee recently indicted Kilmar Abrego Garcia for “transporting undocumented migrants within the United States.”
He was charged with one count of conspiracy to transport aliens and one count of unlawful transportation of undocumented aliens.
According to the indictment, Kilmar Abrego Garcia and co-conspirators from El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and the US were trafficking illegal aliens from 2016 through 2025.
Read the indictment here.
“If convicted at trial, the defendant faces a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment for ‘each alien’ he transported,” the government said.
ABC News reported that according to the government’s motion for detention, an Abrego Garcia co-conspirator told the feds that Abrego Garcia was involved in the murder of a rival gang member’s mother.
Last month Fox News obtained 2022 bodycam footage that shows Kilmar Abrego Garcia being caught human trafficking in Tennessee.
Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) got schooled after he tried to tell Christians what the Bible says about helping the poor in his defense of not voting for President Donald Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB).
In a clip posted on Monday on X, Warnock spoke at the US Capitol and went on a lengthy diatribe against Republicans, accusing them of being like the fictional character Robinhood, but in reverse.
"We're taking away health care from kids and then burdening them with the debt," Warnock said. "We are engaged in Robinhood in reverse, this body of stealing from the poor in order to give to the rich. This massive transfer of wealth from the bottom to the top. This is socialism for the rich."
The Democrat senator and reverend, then, took a swipe at the opposition, who are of faith, claiming they weren't reading the same book as he was when he tried to claim Scripture supports the use of the government to aid the poor.
"But, if I'm honest, there are days when I have to ask people of my faith tradition as a Christian, 'Are we reading the same book?'" Warnock explained. "The book I know says I was hungry, and you fed me. I was sick, I was in prison, and you visited me; I was a stranger, and you welcomed me…."
"The book that I love says learn to do good, seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow," he added. "Speak out, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and the needy."
"And for those of us who have a vote at this moment, from my colleagues who are swinging on a moral dilemma, I hear the Prophet Micah say, 'He has already told you what is good,'" Warnock continued. "And what does the Lord require? Is that you do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God."
When the clip surfaced, it went as well as you can imagine, as one person after another absolutely torched the senator for missing the part about the Bible calling on the church to help people, not the government.
"The book he reads says to be willing and joyful givers," one person wrote in response. "The book he reads says to give of yourself, not by force. The book he reads says taking care of the poor and the hungry is the job of the church, not the job of the government."
We are reading the same book, but with different interpretations. You seem to read it in an exegesis perspective, while I think eisegesis is correct. Yes, 'when I was hungry...' means we help. It does not mean we take it as a dependent. If someone shows up and is in need, I would bring them in, feed them, let them get some rest, and maybe even help them get on their feet. But no, they cannot 'move in.' They have to be working towards self-sustainment.
In the case of illegal immigration, well, they came in, invited their friends, wrecked the house, ate all my food, and drove me into poverty while contributing almost nothing. Oh, and they shot my dog!
A third person wrote, "The 'book' also says this: 'If a man doesn't work, he doesn't eat.' 2 Thess 3:10."
Another person wrote, "Nice try, Pastor Politician. The Bible also says, 'Thou shalt not lie'—maybe start there. Using Scripture to push open borders and endless welfare is manipulation, not faith. Christ wasn't a socialist, Senator."
The Democratic senator from Georgia is all for allowing illegal aliens to stay in our country after former President Joe Biden's policies encouraged the invasion of illegals at our southern border, as RedState's Mike Miller reported.
Less than one month after Mohamed Soliman allegedly targeted Jews in a terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado on June 1, one of the victims has died from her injuries. The Boulder County District Attorney's Office put out a release about the death of 82-year-old Karen Diamond, also noting amended and added charges as a result.
As the press release mentioned:
Today, the District Attorney’s Office amended Counts 4 and 5 from Criminal Attempt to Commit First Degree Murder to Murder in the First Degree. Counts 4 and 5 pertain to the same victim. Count 4 charges First Degree Murder under an extreme indifference theory and Count 5 charges First Degree Murder with intent and after deliberation. Those two murder counts each pertain to the one victim who has passed away.
Karen Diamond, 82 years old, died tragically as a result of the severe injuries that she suffered in the attack.
The District Attorney’s Office has been in close communication with Karen Diamond’s family throughout this difficult time. The family has asked our office to share, “The family asks for privacy as they continue to grieve.”
In addition to amending Counts 4 and 5 to reflect the death of Karen Diamond, the District Attorney’s Office added 66 counts. These counts are related to 14 additional victims who have now been identified through the ongoing investigation.
In total, the amended complaint names a total of 29 victims in the attack. Of the 29 victims, 13 suffered physical injury during the attack. The complaint now contains the 2 counts of first degree murder, 52 counts of attempted first degree murder, 8 counts of first degree assault, 18 counts of attempted first degree assault, 2 counts of third degree assault, 2 counts of using an incendiary device, 16 counts of attempted use of an incendiary device and one count of animal cruelty.
First degree murder carries the penalty of life without the possibility of parole. Attempted first degree murder carries a prison sentence of 16 - 48 years. First degree assault carries a prison sentence of 10 - 32 years. For at-risk victims, the sentence would be enhanced. Use of an incendiary device carries a prison sentence of 16 - 48 years. Attempted use of an incendiary device carries a prison sentence of 4 - 12 years.
These additional charges, including the counts of First Degree Murder, are being filed after consultation with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Boulder Police Department. The DA’s Office continues to work closely with federal, state, and local partners in the strong response to this attack. We stand united against acts of antisemitism and hate.
There's also a statement from DA Michael Dougherty included. "This horrific attack has now claimed the life of an innocent person who was beloved by her family and friends. Our hearts are with the Diamond family during this incredibly difficult time. Our office will fight for justice for the victims, their loved ones, and the community. Part of what makes Colorado special is that people come together in response to a tragedy; I know that the community will continue to unite in supporting the Diamond family and all the victims of this attack," he said.
Diamond managed to survive the Holocaust but died as a result of her injuries sustained when she and other Jews were peacefully participating in a "Run for Their Lives" event in support of the hostages that Hamas took during the October 7, 2023 attack perpetrated against Israel.
In addition to accounts such as StopAntisemitism and JCRC Bay Area mourning the loss of Diamond, Colorado Democrats such as Gov. Jared Polis and Rep. Joe Neguse, whose district includes Boulder, also chimed in over X.
"Boulder" and "Karen Diamond" have been trending over X on Monday in response to her death.
The suspect, Soliman, came to the United States from Egypt during the Biden-Harris administration and despite being granted extensions, overstayed his visa. While the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) immediately moved to have his family deported, U.S. District Judge Gordon P. Gallagher stepped in right away to issue an order blocking the deportation.
While almost the entire city council signed a statement condemning the attack days after it took place, Taishya Adams was the one member who couldn't be bothered to sign on. She referenced distinctions between antisemitism and anti-Zionism.
The House recently passed resolutions condemning the attack and antisemitism. One such resolution, from Rep. Gabe Evans (R-CO) referenced Soliman's immigration status and how Colorado is a sanctuary state. The resolution also thanked ICE agents. Despite the vocal pushback from many Democrats, the resolution passed 280-113.
Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Todd Lyons says left-wing activists are targeting ICE agents, with some going after agents’ families, including their children.
In a video posted to X on Monday, Lyons revealed that ICE and the United States Secret Service tracked down one particular activist who had been targeting the children of ICE agents online.
“Wouldn’t you wear a mask if it kept your family safe, if it kept your kids safe? We ran an operation with the Secret Service,” Lyons said. “We arrested someone who was going online, taking ICE agents’ photos, posting their families, their kids’ Instagrams, their kids’ Facebooks, and targeting them. So let me ask, is that the issue here that anyone is upset with masks, or is anyone upset that an ICE officer’s families were labeled terrorists?”
In addition, Lyons highlighted recent remarks from Cudahy, California, Vice Mayor Cynthia Gonzalez where she seems to suggest the 18th Street Gang ought to start targeting ICE agents.
“You guys tag everything up, claiming hood, and now that your hood is being invaded by the biggest gang there is, there ain’t a peep out of you,” Gonzalez says in the video. “It’s everyone else that’s not about the gang life and out there protesting and speaking up.”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is now reportedly investigating Gonzalez over the shout-out to the 18th Street Gang.
Similarly, Lyons showed a viral TikTok message from an activist who called for the execution of ICE agents.
“You can kill them. This isn’t about social media clout anymore … this is about get a gun and start killing ICE agents,” the activist in the TikTok video states.
“My office and agents are enforcing immigration law. They are not secret police, they are not Nazis,” Lyons said. “But people hiding behind keyboards are demonizing them, they’re doxxing them, stirring up anti-ICE sentiment and putting their lives their families’ lives at risk.”
ICE agents, since President Donald Trump was sworn into office, are facing a 500-percent increase in assaults as they attempt to locate, detain, and arrest illegal aliens living in the United States.
Send money. That is the message an exasperated United Nations delivered Monday as it hosted the biggest appeal for funds in a decade following the withdrawal of the U.S. from aid agreements brokered by the globalist body.
At least 50 world leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron, Kenya’s William Ruto, E.U. chief Ursula von der Leyen and U.N. head Antonio Guterres are in Seville, Spain, for the four-day gathering that seeks at least four trillion dollars to help the U.N. meet its aid targets.
The United States is snubbing the talks after President Donald Trump gutted the U.S. development agency USAID, as Breitbart News reported.
RFK Jr.: USAID Has Been Captured by the Military Industrial Complex
Secretary of State Marco Rubio struck out at what he called the U.S. “foreign aid industrial complex” during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing in May, despairing at the inability of USAID to deliver funds where they are needed most.
Rubio directly targeted the organization, adding the time has come for root-and-branch change.
“At USAID, 12 cents of every dollar was reaching the recipient. That means that in order for us to get aid to somebody, we had to spend all this other money supporting this foreign aid industrial complex,” Rubio said.
U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is pleading for funds to feed the world’s starving masses and end poverty
“We’re going to find more efficient ways to deliver aid to people directly. It’s going to be directed by our regional bureaus. It’s going to sponsor programs that make a difference. And it’s going to be part of a holistic approach to our foreign policy.”
The Seville conference sees more than 4,000 representatives from businesses, civil society and financial institutions make up the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, AFP reports.
U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday warned foreign aid budgets have already been “decimated,” pleading this isn’t a crisis of numbers but of “families going hungry, children unvaccinated, children dropping out of school.”
The lifelong Socialist and career bureaucrat noted that meeting the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals — a global agenda to end poverty, protect the planet and promote peace — requires about $4 trillion a year.
“But we are here in Seville to change course, to restore a message of fairness and justice for all,” Guterres added.
