Happy Easter everyone! Today is the day we celebrate that our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, rose from the dead after suffering a horrific passion and death.
I often think that God the Father and all of Heaven must have been absolutely ecstatic when Jesus rose from the dead, because it meant he had fully completed his Father’s will to save us from our sins and re-unite us with our Creator.
As a matter of theology, the resurrection is absolutely crucial to our Christian faith. Because if Jesus had not risen from the dead, then everything that he suffered and did for us would be meaningless, because he would just be a man.
Just as Heaven was ecstatic at the resurrection of our Lord, imagine how the disciples felt that day nearly 2,000 years ago, when they learned that Jesus was no longer in the tomb. They had just seen their Master suffer the most brutal and torturous death they could imagine and were absolutely crushed by it. But the joy they felt in their hearts when they discovered Jesus had indeed risen must’ve been overwhelming!
As my priest said last night, we should be truly thankful today for this gift of faith that we have today. Because it truly is a gift that Jesus gave us with his death and resurrection. Without it, where would we be? We would be eternally separated from God, lost in this world and our lives wouldn’t matter a hill of beans.
So go this day about your way, remembering that Jesus is the only reason we have hope, both in this life and beyond. It is truly something to celebrate!
