Left-wing political commentator Hasan Piker has been temporarily banned from the streaming platform Twitch after implying Republican Florida Sen. Rick Scott should be “killed.”
While commenting on a clip of Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson discussing Medicaid fraud with former Daily Caller reporter and current CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins, Piker stated, “If you cared about Medicare fraud or Medicaid fraud, you would kill Rick Scott, okay? You wouldn’t make Rick Scott … a prominent part of the Republican party.”
Twitch hasn’t given a specific reason for Piker’s channel getting removed, according to Kotaku. An X post from Piker appears to confirm that his call for Scott to be killed is the reason he got banned. In his post, Piker apologized and said he will choose his words “more carefully next time.” His post continued by accusing Scott of perpetrating “the most Medicare fraud in U.S. history,” and called for Johnson to give Scott “max punishment.”
im sorry! ill choose my words carefully next time & say “if mike johnson cares abt medicare fraud (since he wants to cut 800m from medicaid/medicare) he’d call for MAX PUNISHMENT for current fl gop senator/former gov rick scott- who has done the most medicare fraud in us history! https://t.co/o2kl21usXy pic.twitter.com/1pI5Xjhi8q

This is not the first time that Piker has been banned from Twitch. In 2019, he was banned for a week for saying “America deserved 9/11, dude,” according to Kotaku. In 2021, he was temporarily banned from the platform for using the anti-white slur, “cracker.”
yes. it is for exactly what you think it is. anti white racism for using the term “cracker.” https://t.co/5cukDRubze

A search for Piker’s Twitch account, HasanAbi, results in a page saying the channel is “temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch’s Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.” Twitch’s community guidelines state that acts and threats of violence are considered “zero-tolerance” violations and that “all accounts associated with such activities” will be “indefinitely suspended.” These activities include “encouraging others to participate in acts that may harm others.”
Democratic New York Rep. Ritchie Torres wrote to the CEO of Twitch and Amazon executives Oct. 29, expressing disappointment and “alarm” over Piker’s “amplification of antisemitism on Twitch.”
With a following of 2.7 million, Piker is one of the top political streamers on the platform.
“Since October 7th, there has been an explosion of Jew-hatred on social media platforms,” Torres wrote. “Hasan Piker has emerged as the poster child for the post-October 7th outbreak of antisemitism in America.”
