Alarming new data has revealed that the vast majority of people being euthanized by the Canadian government are disproportionately white.
In Canada, 70% of the population is white.
However, 96% of Canadians euthanized under the government’s “assisted suicide” policy were white.
This data was reflected across the country, even in the most racially diverse areas.
In Canada’s most racially diverse province British Columbia (BC), nearly 30% of the population consists of recent immigrants.
The population of BC represents the largest share of visible minorities at 34.4%.
Nevertheless, 95% of those euthanized in BC were white.
The curious data comes from the Canadian government’s latest Health Canada report.
The report also shows that Canada leads the world in deaths by euthanasia per year.
Last year, out of 320,000 deaths from all causes, 15,300 Canadians were killed via the government’s “Medical Assistance in Dying” (MAiD) program.
Over three-quarters of MAiD requests are ultimately approved and executed.
The figures have garnered international media headlines, and this latest one will surely cause some double-takes.
It’s unclear why so many more White people per capita are getting approved for government-assisted suicide than the population at large; one can only imagine the shock and disgust that legacy media and far-left pundits would display if Black Canadians were disproportionately euthanized.
Since being legalized in 2016, the program referred to as MAiD has been expanded by the government since it was initially only supposed to include adults with certain terminal illnesses.
In 2021, the federal Liberals relaxed the eligibility criteria to receive government-assisted suicide by removing the requirement that an individual’s death be considered “reasonably foreseeable.”
Individuals with questionable decision-making abilities have been allowed to receive MAiD, including earlier this year when a 27-year-old autistic woman from Alberta was given the green light.
The approval shocked many, including Calgary-based anti-MAiD activist, Amanda Achtman.
Achtman argued that it was a “blatant devaluation of persons with disabilities.”
In fact, Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government has also recently considered further expanding eligibility to include individuals suffering purely from certain mental health illnesses.
However, this development has been delayed given widespread public backlash.
Specifically, the government faced a backlash from doctors who refused to euthanize the mentally ill.
Nevertheless, the government’s plan to euthanize mentally ill citizens has only been delayed and will still move forward.
Public polling displays significant nuance within the population.
The pro-suicide lobby “Dying with Dignity” boasts an 84% approval rating among the public in 2023 for the MAiD program in general.
Conversely, the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada reported that 61% of Canadians believe that expanded MAiD covering mental health should be the very last resort.
