Matthew Graves, the US Attorney for the District of Columbia, is stepping down just before the President Donal Trump gets started on Jan 20th next month.
Why?
What’s the hurry?
Where’s he going?
In a statement, Graves praised Biden for making his term a “lifetime honor.” That should age about as well as milk.
His replacement is Bridget Fitzpatrick, stepping in as Acting US Attorney.
Let’s see how long she stays in that position.

The main prosecutor is now running away from his position, eh?
I’m reminded of a phrase someone once said, ‘The hunters become the hunted’.
The Post Millennial reports:
Matthew Graves, the US Attorney for the District of Columbia, will be resigning from his role effective January 16, 2025, just days before President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated.
Graves said in a statement, “Serving as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia has been the honor of a lifetime. I am deeply thankful to Congresswoman Holmes Norton for recommending me; to President Biden for nominating me; and to Attorney General Garland for placing his trust in me.” Graves was confirmed by the Senate in October 2021 and was sworn in in November of that year.
In Graves’ place, Bridget Fitzpatrick, who has served as Principal Assistant United States Attorney, will become Acting US Attorney.
Looks like he’s in for a fun 2025.
Local CBS News adds:
In 2021, Graves made it a priority to federally prosecute those involved in the Capitol riot.
According to a news release, Bridget M. Fitzpatrick, who has served as Principal Assistant United States Attorney—the highest-ranking career prosecutor in the Office—will become Acting U.S. Attorney when Graves leaves the Office.
Fitzpatrick has more than 15 years of federal law enforcement experience, including serving in the Principal Assistant role for three years.
She has been involved in all significant matters the Office has handled during her tenure, working closely with the Office’s law enforcement partners that have been critical to a wide range of successful prosecutions and violence prevention efforts over the past three years.
Graves will step down on Jan. 16, 2025.
Never forget:
I wonder how his story will end.
