Fetterman officially endorses Elise Stefanik for UN Ambassador

Democratic Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman on Wednesday officially endorsed New York GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik as the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations (U.N.).

President-elect Donald Trump nominated Stefanik for the post last month, which would require her to resign her House seat, but she still needs to be confirmed by the Senate. Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley held the post in Trump's first term.

Fetterman said that he always planned to confirm Stefanik, but appeared even more confident after the pair had a discussion on Capitol Hill. Trump's nominees have been meeting with senators this month to help ease the confirmation process.

"Always was a hard YES for [Stefanik], but it was a pleasure to have a conversation," he posted on X. "I support defunding UNRWA for its documented Hamas infiltration and fully look forward to her holding the [U.N.] accountable for its endemic antisemitism and blatant anti-Israel views."

Stefanik confirmed the meeting in her own post on X, and said the pair shared their mutual support for Israel amid its war with Hamas. She said they also discussed national security and antisemitism.
