In a significant endorsement ahead of the upcoming presidential election, The Jewish Press, the largest independent Jewish-American newspaper, has declared its support for former President Donald Trump. The publication, known for its influence among Orthodox communities, cited a “moral imperative” to back Trump, warning of a potential “socialist state” should Vice President Kamala Harris ascend to the presidency.
“Our clear choice for president is Donald Trump,” The Jewish Press stated, highlighting Trump’s track record of policies that align with Jewish and pro-Israel interests. The newspaper’s editorial board underscored their concerns about the current Democratic Party’s direction under Harris, describing it as marked by “wokeism,” anti-Israel policies, and left-leaning economic and social agendas.
The endorsement warns readers about a Harris presidency, framing her as an advocate for policies that have contributed to “soaring” inflation, “social upheaval” from open borders, and what they term as “out-of-control transgenderism.” It also highlights Harris’s support for conditioning U.S. military aid on Israeli policy shifts and references past comments linking Israel to alleged “genocide” in Gaza. The Jewish Press cautioned readers to be mindful of these stances and their potential implications for U.S.-Israel relations.
“It is astonishing to us how quickly the Democratic Party has veered to the extreme left and become very hostile towards Israel, with far too few exceptions to boot…,” the paper noted in its editorial. The publication called attention to Harris’s potential endorsement of Supreme Court expansion, the removal of the Senate filibuster, and other measures it sees as steps toward a more socialist governance structure.
“Can anyone really believe that Democratic control of the presidency, Senate and House would not result in the ‘packing’ of the Supreme Court to dilute conservative votes, the end of the Senate’s filibuster and its protection against the tyranny of the majority, and a new, even more precipitous lurch towards the long-feared socialist state than heretofore?” the editorial asked.
Conversely, the newspaper pointed to Trump’s administration as a period of strong U.S.-Israel ties and support for Jewish communities. The paper argued that under Trump, there was clear backing for pro-Israel policies, reinforcing their conclusion that “a vote for him is as close to being a moral imperative as we can get.”
The Jewish Press’s endorsement aligns with its broader campaign to support candidates with a proven track record of pro-Israel positions and robust backing for Jewish community interests. The editorial urged voters to support Republican candidates in federal, state, and local races to maintain a conservative majority in Congress, which they view as vital for protecting Jewish and Israeli interests.
With its substantial weekly print circulation and far-reaching online readership, The Jewish Press wields significant influence, especially among Jewish and conservative voters in New York and other key regions. This endorsement reflects the publication’s ongoing commitment to spotlighting policies and leadership it believes best serve the Jewish-American community.
