The criminal investigations into New York City’s Democrat Mayor Eric Adams and his administration have now expanded to include five more countries, including Communist China.
Federal investigators have been probing Adams’ ties to Turkey’s government over allegations he conspired with Turkish officials to illegally funnel foreign cash to his campaign.
However, the New York Times reported that prosecutors have now widened to include five more countries.
City Hall, Adams, and his campaign were reportedly subpoenaed two months ago for information related to China, Qatar, Uzbekistan, South Korea, and Israel.
The report said it is not clear how expansive the scope of the investigation was.
It is not yet known what information prosecutors were looking for.
Adams is under federal criminal investigation over potential corruption stemming from actions involving the Turkish government.
Prosecutors are looking to see if he received illegal campaign donations.
Those foreign donations were allegedly in exchange for pushing through building inspections on a Turkish consulate in NYC.
Investigators also believe Adams received free flight upgrades.
Over the last year, Adams has seen numerous people in his orbit come under criminal investigation.
Earlier this month, the FBI executed search warrants for several Adams allies.
The home of Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Philip Banks was searched by agents.
A home shared by First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright and Schools Chancellor David Banks was also searched.
Investigators seized phones belonging to then-NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban and Timothy Pearson, a senior adviser to the mayor.
The brother of Philip Banks and David Banks, consultant Terence Banks, was also searched.
The FBI raided the home of Adams’ director of Asian Affairs, Winnie Greco, earlier this year.
The search of Greco’s home was part of a criminal probe run by the Eastern District of New York, the Times said.
The mayor’s former buildings commissioner, Eric Ulrich, is also facing bribery charges.
Meanwhile, several donors to Adams’ campaign have been charged in a straw-donor scheme.
Caban resigned from his NYPD post last week after his phone was seized.
His successor, NYPD interim Commissioner Thomas Donlon, was also raided by the FBI late last week.
