Freed Israeli Hostage Shares Harrowing Tale of Brief Escape Before Being Returned to Hamas by Locals in Gaza

It is a harrowing tale of survival that reveals as much about the people of Gaza as it does the insidious Hamas terrorists.

A recently released Hamas hostage, Russian-Israeli Ron Krivoi, endured a dramatic escape and recapture in the Gaza Strip. Krivoi’s ordeal began when he was working as a sound technician at the Supernova festival on October 7.

During this event, Hamas terrorists went on a murderous rampage, torturing, raping, shooting and burning alive some, while taking other hostage. Krivoi was captured in an incident that gained international attention, including a personal request from Russian President Vladimir Putin for Krivoi’s inclusion under a separate deal in a prisoner swap.

Krivoi’s aunt, in a heart-wrenching account on KAN’s Reshet Bet radio, revealed the extent of her nephew’s struggles.

After being held in a residential building by Hamas, a stroke of fate during an Israeli Defense Force (IDF) bombing allowed Krivoi a brief taste of freedom. The bombing caused a partial collapse of the building, enabling Krivoi to escape.

“He tried getting to the border. But he didn’t have the capacity to understand where he was or where he needed to go, so he couldn’t navigate through the open field,” said his aunt.

However, his freedom was short-lived. Lost and disoriented, unable to navigate through the open fields of Gaza, Krivoi survived in the ruins for four harrowing days.

Locals recaptured Krivoi and handed back to Hamas, leaving one to really question the innocence of the citizens of Gaza. Are they really victims of Hamas or are they participatory and supportive of the terror organization?

Under a Qatar-brokered cease-fire agreement, Krivoi was released along with others in what has become a series of prisoner exchanges. The cease-fire, initially set for four days, has seen extensions, each contingent upon the release of more innocent hostages in exchange for Palestinian convicted felons in Israeli prisons.

As of the latest developments, the truce has facilitated the release of 61 Israelis and 19 hostages of other nationalities, while 180 Palestinians convicts have been freed from Israeli prisons.

Krivoi’s story tells of the human cost of the Hamas massacre on October 7. His aunt’s words paint a vivid picture of the psychological and physical toll of his captivity.

She shared the relief of his release but stating he has nightmares. “Yes, I have nightmares about the party and from being in captivity, but everything is alright now,” Krivoi told her.

“He has some other injuries as well,” his aunt said, stating he sustained wounds from the building’s collapse along with a head wound. “He is under medical observation, but he is okay.”

The situation remains tenuous at best. Hamas is clearly using the hostages as a means to propel the release of their imprisoned fighters, many of which either implemented or attempted acts of terror against Israelis. It is also very likely they are slowly trickling hostages out to extend a cease fire in hopes of world pressure to make it permanent with a two state solution, leaving Hamas in power and free to attack Israel again.
