The man reportedly brought a loaded handgun and walked up the governor’s office at around 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

After posting bail, he returned to the Capitol that night while carrying an assault rifle.

The Associated Press reported Thursday:

The man, who was shirtless and had a holstered handgun, approached the governor’s office on the first floor of the Capitol around 2 p.m. Wednesday, state Department of Administration spokesperson Tatyana Warrick said. The man was demanding to see the governor, who was not in the building at the time, Warrick said.

A Capitol police officer sits at a desk outside of a suite of rooms that includes the governor’s office, conference room and offices for the attorney general.

The man was taken into custody for openly carrying a firearm in the Capitol, which is against the law, Warrick said. Weapons can be brought into the Capitol if they are concealed and the person has a valid permit. The man arrested did not have a concealed carry permit, Warrick said.

The man was booked into the Dane Count Jail but later posted bail.

He returned to the outside of the Capitol shortly before 9 p.m. with a loaded assault-style rifle, Warrick said. The building closes to the public at 6 p.m. He again demanded to see the governor and was taken into custody.

Madison police reported Thursday that the man, who was not named, was taken into protective custody and taken to the hospital.

According to Dan O’Donnell of News/Talk 1130 WISN, the suspect is a “well-known local chef and a liberal Bernie Sanders donor.”

News/Talk 1130 WISN shared the details:

The suspect who was arrested after bringing a handgun into the Wisconsin Capitol Wednesday afternoon and demanding to see Governor Evers, then returning that night with a rifle after posting bail, is a well-known chef at a Madison distillery and an apparent liberal who made multiple donations to Bernie Sanders.

According to a visitor alert circulated to Capitol staff, Joshua J. Pleasnick, 43, who goes by the nickname “Taco,” was shirtless and brandishing a holstered handgun when he approached a security guard stationed outside Evers’ office and demanded to see the Governor just before 2:00 pm Wednesday.

“Pleasnick was told he could not open carry in the Capitol,” the alert states. “Pleasnick stated he would not comply with that order. Pleasnick was arrested for openly carrying a firearm in a public building. While being interviewed Pleasnick said he would continue coming to the Capitol until he spoke to the Governor about domestic abuse towards men.”

Online court records indicate Pleasnick has been involved in at least one divorce and several child support actions over the past decade.

Pleasnick was booked into the Dane County Jail but immediately posted bail and returned to the Capitol at about 8:50 pm armed with “an AK-style rifle.”

Heavy.com added:

Joshua Pleasnick was identified by the Wisconsin Capitol Police as the man who is accused of showing up at the office of Governor Tony Evers with a gun and returning with an “AK Style rifle.”

His name is included in an alert sent out by the Capitol police to Wisconsin legislators and their staffs. Heavy has obtained a copy of the release. Pleasnick’s LinkedIn page says he works as a Madison-area chef.

Federal Election Commission campaign finance records show Pleasnick made four small donations to ActBlue earmarked for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. Evers is a Democrat. The alert says Pleasnick wanted to speak with the governor about “domestic abuse towards men.”
