It was a move first made by Republican governors in southern states to combat a problem manufactured by Democrats.
At the time it was derided as a political stunt, but the national attention garnered by it is just what the doctor ordered.
Now El Paso’s Democrat mayor just channeled his inner Greg Abbott in a move sure to leave Eric Adams seething.
The city of El Paso, Texas is on the frontlines of the illegal immigrant invasion that has accelerated since Joe Biden assumed the presidency.
With 2000 or more immigrants crossing the Rio Grande from Mexico into the United States every day, the city’s shelters and resources have been stretched beyond the breaking point.
Indeed, this Democrat-manufactured crisis is only worsening as the Biden administration fails to enforce immigration laws with its de facto open-door policy.
To wit, illegal immigrant encounters at the southern border reached 233,000 last month, making it the highest August on record for this activity, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
That number alone is a huge increase from the already sky-high 184,000 encounters in July.
Democrats have largely ignored the problem and have pretended it simply doesn’t exist, as acknowledging such would shine a negative light on the Biden White House, potentially imperiling other elected officials on team blue.
Even Democrats are starting to question the wisdom of the party’s policies
But with numbers like these, such a course of action for public officials at ground zero, on the southern border, is no longer tenable.
At a press conference the Democrat mayor of El Paso, Oscar Leeser, made it clear that he has had enough.
Leeser said, “The city of El Paso only has so many resources and we have come to … a breaking point right now.”
What he decided to do about it is reminiscent of what the governor of his state has been doing for much of the past year.
Following in Greg Abbott’s footsteps, Leeser chartered five buses to send immigrants to New York, Chicago, and Denver.
Democrats howled in opposition to Abbott’s decision to send the illegal migrants packing, deriding it as inhumane and a political stunt, but it was nothing if not effective.
Illegal immigration is now part of the national conversation in a way that it wasn’t before, because Democrats and their corporate media allies didn’t want to discuss it, but now can’t avoid doing so.
Mi casa es su casa
When these far-left population centers, which are chock full of media elites and run by Democrat bigwigs, are inundated with 100,000 new arriving immigrants, as the city of New York has seen for the last 18 months, suddenly it’s no longer someone else’s problem.
Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security has since given New York City $140 million in federal funding to address the illegal immigrant crisis, but Mayor Eric Adams has said it’s simply not enough and he needs more money.
It’s heartening to see a Democrat mayor essentially showcase his party’s utter failure on the immigration front, because it moves the ball forward for those who actually believe that countries and borders exist.
If Joe Biden and his allies won’t secure the border, he’ll continue to lose Democrat officials in towns overrun because his poor policy continues to bring the border crisis to them.
