If you've been following along, there's been a funny running drama between X owner Elon Musk and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for some time now.
But when Musk weighed in on a wacky interpretation from AOC about Ellis Island, it was on like Donkey Kong.
So, how wild are those comments?
Does she not understand the difference between the chaos of people flooding across the border now versus what was then legal immigration through a checkpoint? That there was far more checking and inspection, it seems, then than what goes on now, with people being given physical exams for diseases and being checked to see if they were mentally impaired?
Questionable candidates were forced to submit to more detailed questioning and medical exams, and any signs of contagious disease, poor physique, feeblemindedness or insanity could see an immigrant denied admittance on the grounds that they were likely to become a ward of the state.
In later years, doctors at Ellis Island even devised puzzles and memory tests to ensure that certain immigrants were intelligent enough to find work. New arrivals could also face rejection if they were anarchists, had a criminal record or showed signs of low moral character.
Plus, one of the things about that was making sure that the person wouldn't become a ward of the state, unlike what we see now.
It doesn't look like AOC knows much history, and Elon Musk, who has been blasting Biden's handling of the border crisis, had a few things to say about that interpretation.
Oh, my, you know that's not going to go over well with AOC, who, like Joe Biden, doesn't handle being challenged and called out on her malarkey well.
"I wasn’t born rich and became the youngest woman in American history to be elected to Congress," Ocasio-Cortez railed. "Then I investigated Cohen, authored the largest FEMA funeral assistance program in history and led creation of a US Climate Corps to create tens of thousands of new jobs. Stay mad."
First, let's deal with some of those assertions. She "wasn't born rich." I suppose that's a relative term, but she grew up in well-off Westchester, not the Bronx, the daughter of an architect who had his own firm. So she wasn't poor when she was growing up. She touts the Climate Corps that Biden just created. Biden is also refusing to say how much of our money this program is sucking up. The creation of another government program, especially one that's all about pushing an agenda, isn't exactly an accomplishment to brag about. Further, any Democrat who ran from that area would have won, so it's not exactly a spectacular accomplishment on her part. As Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) once said about AOC winning her district, a glass of water with a "D" on it could win.
Plus, none of those points rebuts the assertion that she is not smart. So, it's not a very smart response. Indeed, creating another government program is not smart and drains our money.
But imagine her thinking that Musk is mad. The guy behind Tesla and SpaceX who has contributed so much to the world versus a former bartender who hasn't achieved much. The difference between what he has achieved versus what she has achieved is immense. Plus, she's communicating on his platform and driving a Tesla. She's been claiming she's going to get rid of it and buy a new car for more than a year, but she still has it. So, if anyone owns anyone here, it looks like she just can't quit Elon.
