Why did the GOP roll out a mobile voting app for the 2023 convention?
One of the dark little secrets of the post-Trump years is that many state GOPs have fought “tooth and nail” to prevent Trump-aligned candidates from running (and beating) unpopular establishment hacks.
Case in point: North Carolina — which recently had a leadership convention go sour.
In a lawsuit recently heard in the Superior Court of North Carolina, several members of the state GOP sued the North Carolina Republican Party for not following its own bylaws and election procedures at the 2023 convention.
The 2023 convention was especially contentious since it featured a real contest for its top party officials.
The two-term incumbent chair, Michael Whatley, made a big show of being concerned about “the integrity of the ballot” — but then introduced a mobile voting app so that the 2023 election could be conducted on the Internet with no paper ballot.
