James Murdoch Iced Out Of Reunion Over Rumor He Shared Family Secrets With 'Succession' Producers: Report

James Murdoch, the 50-year-old son of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, found himself excluded from a recent family reunion that took place on the picturesque Amalfi Coast.

The gathering saw Rupert, along with his son Lachlan and daughter Elizabeth, celebrate aboard their luxurious superyachts.

According to reports from The Sydney Morning Herald, James’s absence from the event was due to his purported left-leaning political views, which have caused a strain in his relationship with the rest of the Murdoch family.

The reunion, attended by almost 40 members of the extended Murdoch family, witnessed Rupert and Lachlan taking their multimillion-dollar vessels, the iconic Christina O and the newly acquired $150 million Sarissa, for a spin.

Also present were Elizabeth’s husband Keith Tyson, as well as Rupert’s youngest daughters, Grace and Chloe.

Sources familiar with the matter suggested that James’s absence from the Murdoch gathering might be linked to rumors that he had leaked stories about the family to the producers of the popular HBO series “Succession.”

The show delves into the power struggles within the fictional Roy family, who control a global media and entertainment conglomerate resembling the Murdochs’ real-life empire.

The parallels between the fictional Roy family and the Murdochs have not gone unnoticed, leading many to believe that the Australian media tycoons served as inspiration for the show.

There are conflicting accounts regarding whether Lachlan informed his father, Rupert, aged 92, about James’s alleged involvement in leaking stories for “Succession.”

Individuals close to Lachlan have denied these allegations, casting doubt on their veracity.

If the claims were indeed true, it would be a significant blow to Rupert, who reportedly prohibited his ex-wife, Jerry Hall, from engaging with the show’s writers, as per their divorce settlement outlined in a 2022 Vanity Fair article.

However, in a 2020 interview with The New York Times, James dismissed any personal interest in “Succession,” emphasizing that he does not draw parallels between the show and his own family dynamics.

“The dramatization of family affairs is as old as anything. It’s always built in a certain construct, back in Shakespeare or back in Homer,” James stated.

“I think the reality, my reality anyways, is that I’ve never felt that comfortable drawing any parallels because I don’t feel as if I live solely in a needy orbit of approval or whatever from the charismatic mega-fauna. Not at all. I’m entirely my own person.”
