Sometime overnight, a phallic symbol, measuring nearly 10 metres in length, was mowed into the lawn, leaving residents in Bath, England, “bemused as to who is responsible and why it has happened,” reports Somerset Live.

The phallus was mowed into the lawn just two days before the coronation of King Charles III. A coronation party is planned for the grounds on Saturday, with flyers noting: ”Celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Georgian era.”

Aside from its grounds, the UNESCO World Heritage site about 200 km west of London is known for its Georgian architectural style and is considered one of the U.K.’s most exclusive streets.

Bath and North East Somerset Council is responsible for the lawn but has yet to issue a statement about the alteration.

It’s not clear if it’s the work of one individual or several. The large symbol appears to have been expertly mowed, with remarkably straight lines and evenly curved edges.

Built between 1767 and 1774 and designed by architect John Wood, the Younger, a key figure in the history of British 18th-century architecture, the site is home to 30 terraced houses designed in a sweeping 150-metre crescent.

The grounds also feature a ha-ha, a sunken lawn feature designed to keep grazing animals out of the formal garden. The ha-ha, which includes an inner side faced with stone and a turfed outer face, is designed to be invisible unless up close, giving the grounds an uninterrupted appearance from Royal Victoria Park.

Since its construction, a number of notable people have either lived or stayed in the Royal Crescent, and it is one of the most visited and photographed places in the world, according to The Royal Crescent Society.

The site is home to a museum, No. 1 Royal Crescent, which has been decorated and furnished to reflect the style and ambience of the late 18th century, and a luxury hotel and spa that also hosts weddings and other events.

The Royal Crescent has also been featured in many movies and television shows, including the Netflix series Bridgerton.

The coronation of Charles III and his wife, Camilla, will take place on Saturday at Westminster Abbey in London.
