VP seen as unable to take things on president's plate
Donald Trump already is running for the GOP nomination for president in 2024.
Joe Biden has said he expects to be seeking the Democrat nomination, although he's not formally announced. He would be well into his 80s with multiple incidents suggesting a significant decline in his mental capabilities already in evidence.
A sidekick for Trump really hasn't even been the subject of much speculation yet, but as incumbent, with incumbent Kamala Harris as vice president, that ticket likely already is locked in.
And that could be a problem for Democrats.
A report from Fox News explains that while Biden needs Harris on the ticket, because of her gender and race, he remains annoyed with her for not "rising to the occasion."
A "bombshell" Reuters report, in fact, featured "comments from high-ranking officials in the Biden administration that revealed some" of Joe Biden's opinions.
One Biden official said, "If he did not think she was capable, he would not have picked her. But it is a question of consistently rising to the occasion."
Fox noted Biden "is reportedly ticked off" at her because he doesn't see her as someone who can take anything "off of his plate."
For instance, Biden placed Harris in charge of the border crisis his polities created when he took office, "but she has notably neglected visiting the border, going only after she took heavy flack in the press and from interest groups," Fox reported.
The National Border Patrol Council even demanded of her, "If you were given a job 2 years ago with the explicit goal of reducing illegal immigration, and then you sit around and do nothing while illegal immigration explodes to levels never seen before, you should be fired and replaced. Period."
One administration official said in the report that Harris is smart enough to see that the border cannot be a political victory for her.
Fox reported, "This is not Harris’ first conflict with Democratic Party heavyweights. CNN reported that Harris stopped receiving Sen. Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s phone calls for a time after the senator seemingly refused to endorse the VP for re-election in 2024."
Warren had said, when asked about Harris being No. 2 on the 2024 ticket, "I really want to defer to what makes Biden comfortable on his team. I’ve known Kamala for a long time. I like Kamala. I knew her back when she was an attorney general and I was still teaching, and we worked on the housing crisis together, so we go way back. But they need — they have to be a team, and my sense is they are — I don’t mean that by suggesting I think there are any problems. I think they are."
The Reuters report said Harris has "low poll ratings" and has failed "to win over the Washington establishment…"
"While the pair have a good working relationship, Democratic sources say Biden has frustrations about some of her work. He is also convinced that neither Harris nor any other Democratic hopefuls would be able to beat former President Donald Trump if he is the Republican nominee, a factor that has influenced Biden's inclination to run again, one former White House official said," the report explained.
The problem is Harris' status as black and heritage as Asian.
The report warned Biden could lose crucial votes if he dropped her.
But even so, she's carrying only a 39% favorability rating.
She, like Biden, has worked ardently for abortion and transgenderism across America's society so far.
And one Democrat strategist, Bud Jackson, explained that while she has not "lit a fire" under Democrats, he sees the party hoping that Biden is fine for another term, and then "Harris is not the preordained Democratic nominee (for 2028)."
