Pelosi alerts all House members to be physically present for Wednesday 'special' session

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) alerted all House members to be physically present at the United States Capitol for a "special" session on Wednesday.

The alert, sent to all colleagues in the form of a letter, only gave the reason that the "very special session" would feature a "very special focus on Democracy." While no elaboration was given, the letter, obtained by the Washington Examiner, coincides with reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit the U.S. Capitol in person on Wednesday.

VOLODYMYR ZELENSKY TO VISIT UNITED STATES CAPITOL ON WEDNESDAY: REPORT

"We are ending a very special session of the 117th Congress with legislation that makes progress for the American people as well as support for our Democracy," the letter reads. "Please be present for a very special focus on Democracy Wednesday night."

Sources told Axios and Semafor that Zelensky's trip is not yet certain and is reliant on a number of factors, including security. If true, however, it would be the Ukrainian president's first foreign trip since Russia's Feb. 24 invasion of the country.

He is expected to thank the U.S. for the military aid that has proven instrumental in halting the Russian advance while making pleas for more. The leadership of the embattled country has increasingly warned of the possibility that Russia could attempt a renewed offensive in the new year against Kyiv itself, and Ukraine's power grid continues to be crippled by missile and drone attacks.
