“See this is what I find tedious,” Maher said. “Is when people go right to, like, oh, here’s something I can get Biden on because Biden is that bad thing. So gas is seven dollars. I’ll get that dig in. It’s like you know very well gas prices have nothing to do with who’s President mostly. Some things-”
“I don’t know that, enlighten me,” Kid Rock interjected.
“Well some things. What?” Maher said.
“Enlighten me, I don’t know that.”
“Gas prices go up and down based on other factors in the world, not on whose president,” Maher explained. “The President doesn’t run the gas companies. He can change them slightly-”
“President creates policies that would influence the gas companies like any business,” Kid Rock said. “To a degree, to a degree.”

When Biden took office the national average price of gas was $2.39, according to data from GasBuddy. The national average price of gas did not reach $5 until June 2022 under the Biden administration. During former President Donald Trump’s entire presidency, gas remained under $3 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.
The White House has blamed the high gas prices on the pandemic as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion into Ukraine.
