Israeli PM: "Whoever Has a License to Carry a Weapon, This is the Time to Carry It."

I'm not a big fan of the current prime minister, but I have to say that unlike the United States this is not a "right-wing" political sentiment. 

During a wave of previous attacks, politicians who are not on the right including, famously, Mayor Nir Barkat of Jerusalem, made similar statements.

"What is expected of you, citizens of Israel? Alertness and responsibility. Open your eyes. Whoever has a license to carry a weapon, this is the time to carry," PM Bennett stated during his remarks on the recent wave of Islamic terrorist attacks.

While the statement isn't controversial per se, Haaretz, which is violently anti-Israel, did come out with an editorial titled, "Don't give them too many guns".

It should be noted that some recent terrorist attacks were halted by armed Israeli citizens including a bus driver. The only people who oppose Israelis carrying guns to defend themselves are terrorist supporters.

That's a good description of Haaretz.

But Israelis are getting their guns.

More than 1,500 applications for a license were submitted on Wednesday alone, compared to a daily average of 60 applications, Channel 12 news reported, citing Public Security Ministry data.

The data also showed a large jump in the number of people calling the ministry to inquire about how to obtain a license.

That's a small number, but Israel is a small country. The Left is still unhappy.

“A gun license won’t allow an inexperienced individual, who shot an M16 rifle during his military service, to prevent homicidal terror attacks professionally and without casualties,” tweeted former Meretz party head Zehava Galon Thursday.

Meretz is much more likely to be concerned about terrorist casualties than Israeli casualties.
