Planned Parenthood clinic in Tennessee deemed 'total loss' after catching fire

A Planned Parenthood clinic in Knoxville, Tennessee, burned down Friday morning after firefighters were unable to save the building.

The Knox County 911 Emergency Communications Center was alerted to a fire at approximately 6:39 a.m. and found the building "fully involved with fire through the roof," the Knoxville Fire Department said in a Facebook post. The one-story building, which was closed for renovation, eventually had its flames put under control thanks to the nine units and 30 members KFD said it had on the scene.

"The building is a total loss," the fire department wrote on social media. "The fire is currently under investigation. Further information will be released as the investigation continues."

No injuries have been reported from the fire as of Friday evening.

Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi told the Washington Examiner the building had been under renovation since Dec. 7. As of Friday evening, it has not received any additional information or confirmation from the authorities regarding the cause of the fire.

Planned Parenthood, a women's healthcare and abortion services provider, released a statement on its main social media account saying "our thoughts are with" staff, neighbors, and firefighters who responded to the fire.
