How to get expelled from college!

Of all the things that could get a college student expelled from campus, James Dowling, a junior at St. Louis University, has found the most laughable.

Dowling is facing disciplinary action from school administrators after he posted flyers advertising an off-campus lecture by conservative commentator Matt Walsh. He could be either suspended or expelled for his “inappropriate conduct” and “failure to comply” with administrators’ request to remove the flyers, the school said.

“It is alleged that you were posting unapproved signs for an off-campus event and that when contacted by university staff, you were allegedly confrontational, disrespectful, and failed to comply with reasonable requests made by the staff in accordance with their duties,” administrators told Dowling in a letter.

Dowling, however, has insisted the altercation took place off campus property and is therefore outside the purview of school discipline. He also accused the two administrators who confronted him about the flyers of being deliberately antagonistic toward himself and the two Young America’s Foundation employees who were with him. But William Bowey, the assistant director for the Office of Student Responsibility and Community Standards, informed Dowling he’d have to attend a hearing anyway.

“If you were to be found responsible for a policy violation, suspension or expulsion from the institution are included within the range of possible outcomes that could be applied,” Bowey told Dowling.

It seems obvious, given the school’s past treatment of its College Republicans student group, that the root of this conflict is ideological. Administrators didn’t like that the SLU College Republicans questioned transgender orthodoxy in a video posted to Instagram, so they launched an investigation into the group. They didn’t like that the SLU College Republicans were promoting Walsh, so they’re trying to make an example out of Dowling.

If this is what college is like nowadays, young adults should think long and hard about whether it's worth it.
