Two Thai painters, tasked with repairing a crack on the facade of a high-rise building north of Bangkok, were lowering themselves from the 32nd floor when one of them felt their rope get heavier.

Song, one of the painters, told the Bangkok Post he looked down to see a pair of hands outside of a window roughly 10 floors down cutting their support rope and watched as it fell to the ground, leaving them without an anchor.

He alerted two colleagues, who ran door to door to ask for help. The two painters were left to dangle in mid air until, finally, a couple on the 26th floor appeared to be home.

Prapawan Satasing, 49, a resident of the unit, said she was sitting around when she saw the men “hanging by a rope trying to clutch on to a clothes-hanging rack on her balcony,” Bangkok Post reported. One of them, she said, appeared to be signaling for help.

Her boyfriend went to talk to the men and let them land safely on their balcony. They also captured video of the Oct. 12 incident, which took off when posted to Tik Tok.

Once down, Song told Satasing the culprit was a “well-dressed” woman. The workers went to the condo administration with what happened and alerted police, who sent the rope for forensic testing.

Nichanan Toh, the 34-year-old woman accused of the crime, first denied she was involved, but when later presented with DNA evidence from the rope and video footage, admitted to the cutting but denied she was attempting to kill the two painters.

She has been charged with attempted murder and destruction of property. If convicted, she could face 20 years in prison.

“She denied causing damage and attempting to murder the workers, claiming she did not intend to kill them and cut the rope out of annoyance because she did not see the condo administration’s notice that some repair work would be done on that day,” according to Insider Paper .

The condo administration has said the residents were notified that some repair work would be done during work hours involving men with ropes outside their rooms, with instructions to clear the balcony and close their windows.
