Charlie Watts dead: Rolling Stones drummer dies at 80

Charlie Watts, the longtime drummer for legendary rock band The Rolling Stones, has died at age 80, his publicist confirmed.Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones performs live on stage during the 'No Filter' tour at The London Stadium on May 25, 2018 in London, England.

"Charlie was a cherished husband, father and grandfather and also, as a member of The Rolling Stones, one of the greatest drummers of his generation," his London publicist, Bernard Doherty, said in a statement to the PA news agency.

The statement says Watts "passed away peacefully in a London hospital earlier today surrounded by his family."
