Arizona state lawmaker Otoniel "Tony" Navarrete was arrested on Thursday for allegedly having sexual contact with a child. The Democrat from Phoenix is accused on multiple counts of sexual contact with a minor going back to 2019.
Police told 3TV/CBS 5 that in addition to the charges of sexual conduct with a minor, Navarete is facing additional charges.
Democratic state senators released a statement on the arrest, saying that hey said were aware of it, and are awaiting further details.
"We are aware one of our members has been arrested and are awaiting further details and for law enforcement to do its job," the statement read. "We will not have further comment at this time."
More details surrounding Navarrete's charges will be available on Friday, according to the Arizona Capitol Times.

35-year-old Navarette has served in the state senate since 2019, and served one term in the House representing Legislative District 30 before his term in the state senate. Additionally, he is the deputy director of community based nonprofit Promise Arizona.
His arrest comes after he revealed last week to have tested positive for COVID-19 despite having been vaccinated.
