Bill O’Reilly Accuser Pulled from ‘The View’ Appearance After Court Order

Yesterday’s (July 21) episode of The View was one guest short after Bill O’Reilly‘s legal team stepped in, axing an entire segment from the show. The ABC talk show was forced to postpone the planned appearance of one of O’Reilly’s sexual misconduct accusers, Andrea Mackris, after his legal team was granted a temporary restraining order against her.

O’Reilly sought the order to hold Mackris, a former producer on The O’Reilly Factor, to the terms of a non-disclosure agreement that keeps her from discussing the case. She signed the agreement as part of her 2004 settlement with the talk show host; still, she recently went public in an interview with The Daily Beast, opening up with extensive details about her allegations.

“We were notified late yesterday about a temporary restraining order issued by a court against Andrea Mackris,” a spokesperson for ABC News told Deadline. “We decided to postpone her interview pending further developments.  We look forward to welcoming her to The View at a later date.”

Back in 2004, Mackris received a $9 million settlement. O’Reilly departed Fox News in 2017 after The New York Times reported on settlements that he and the company reached with five women, and still denies the claims. He has since gone on to do a radio show and podcast.

On Tuesday (July 20) O’Reilly attorney Stephen Silverberg wrote in a petition that “an immediate injunction must ensure because [Mackris] intends to further materially breach her legal obligations tomorrow, live on national television.” Judge Randy Sue Marber signed the restraining order later in the day. A hearing is scheduled for July 26.

Mackris has spoken out against NDAs in her case and also in general, telling The Daily Beast, “My act of breaking it is almost an act of self-defense. You know, it’s like, no matter what he tries to do to me, I’m going to be OK.”

“If I have to pay a breach, it’s less than the cost of the past 17 years,” Mackris continued. “I’ll tell you that I welcome the risk because this is intolerable.”
